Amazeing that free trade means this much to them .... well not really .. I know the money grubbering corporate/goverment (hello facism) loves this idea, but it's just bad for Americans ...

and I don't mean just the United States, though it is bad for us too, all of North and South America will hurt .... not the corporations ... but our people

What should be done to fix this police overaction like the article proposes took place in Miami?

And how would another Seattle WTO riot be prevented?

Assuming those two are extreme opposite examples of how these free trade protests end up, where can we settle on a balance so people can protest yet have enough security (or other solutions) so that no Seattle style rioting and vandalism take place?

It's too bad that the terrorist protest groups have spoiled it for the non-violent protesters. Hopefully the police can find a happy medium between preventing riots and allowing lawful protests. It's not an easy job.

It's assumeing guilt before innoceance... and you just pass it off as doing thier job...

Ya life is a risk .. just like protests.

But you can't go around arresting people cause you think they might do something ..

You don't arrest people just because you fear them .... bloody cowards all of you ...

You can't even stand by the Constitution when the going gets tough?

Cowards think of safety frist.... Cowards goto war for safety ...

So even though these protests have a well recored history of planned deliberate and coordinated violence you beleve that police forces should take no precautions to safeguard the lives and property of the citizens in their community when one of these protests comes to town?

They don't include aiming guns(even with rubber bullets) at citizen in protest ...

Precautions don't include fireing tear gas when there IS NO RIOT!!!

I know you didn't grow up here so, so maybe you haven't read it ..... was in the back of many of my text's growing up .....

But the fact remians .. if you are for what they did, you are aginst the Constitustion of the United States.....

Then I asked how we assure that no seattle riot takes place, because I hope we agree that is a bad outcome too.

And please dont make idiotic cheap insults against me for being an immigrant. I was getting A grades on my civics and US history classes while my american born classmates were whining about having to read the constitution and barely pulling in a C or D...

Shouldn't there be some sort of internal or public inquiry about the behaviour of the police?

Presumably if there is a case to answer after the investigation / inquiry, disciplinary procedures or criminal charges can be brought?

I was responding to this .... Caps are mostly so others don't miss the point .....

my previous post spelled it out well...precautions doesn't mean pre-emptive arrests .. etc....

And still the fact is that these protests are known to contain violent elemts who delbieratly aim to cause damage. That is an undeniable fact.

So the challenge is how do local police forces protect their communities from the violent groups yet still allow the non violents protestors freedom to assemble.

How do yiou suggest we balance those two legitimate concerns?

Basicly i'm tryign to say .. the thing we should fear most is fear itself.....

this is pre-emptive police work ..... Yes few people threw some stuff, and started trash can fires .. but it that an excuse to arrest everyone else based on thier views? NO!

people were aressted, assulted and detained simply because they think free trade is bad idea..... and decided to protest it ....
