New Tour!
« on: December 01, 2003, 11:10:03 AM »
Today is the start of a new tour.  This is when I like to start a new plane since I can track what I'm killing in it and what's killing me while I'm flying it.

All you D-stang guys might want to give the B-stang a try for a bit, just to see if you can handle speed management to avoid compression and work on your gunnery to get kills with 2 fewer guns.

That's what I plan on doing, for this week at least.

In the MA those extra 2 guns are really needed,  your saddled up alot longer with a fewer gun package.  The longer you are in the fight the more likely the chance of getting ganged comes into play.

The difference between 4 .50's and 6 .50's isn't really that great.  The P-51B is a fun plane to fly with the extra added bonus that people underestimate it.

Steve... have you flown the P-51B?  If so... how'd you do in it?

4 .50's may not be as good against bombers but it's more than enough against fighters.

The only thing I missed in the 51B was the ammo per gun is deminished vs. the D-pony.  4 guns vs. 6 never really bothered me that much.

The guns of the B have a different feel, for me anyway.  IMO, there is a noticeable difference in the gun packages, specifically in snap  shots.

I have little trouble focusing my fire in a snap shot and knocking parts off when flying the D.  In the B, these snap shots rarely knock a part off...at least for me.

Sure, in  tracking shots one can knock a piece off w/ 4 guns quite nicely, with a bit of a longer burst than the 6 gun package.
Again, I just feel that the 4 .50's are poor for quick bursts and snap shots(which I seem to get more often than a nice lead or tracking shot).

This is merely my opinion.  The B is a fun plane, and my congrats to those who have better luck w/ the guns of the B than I.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the "B" also only carry 500 lbers. and not 1000 lbers.? That would be a reason to fly the "D" on a Jabo mission, but for just "figgin it", the "B" is fun. I like the looks more of the "B" too.

:aok
