What plane is this??? Need to know

Need to know what plane this is.  Lost the paper with the name of it.  I forgot what its name.  Is it what was suppose to eb the replacememtn for the p-38?

Actually I recall that work on the XF5F lead to later development of the F7F Tigercat, just a bit too late  fpr WW2 combat.

Lockheed make P-38 not Grumman

He never said Grumman made the P-38.

Check this out:


The one on the bottom was the XP-50, which if I recall correctly was the version intended for USAAC use (well, it was proposed as such), which would have made it more of a competitor of the P--38. since the XF5F was being developed for the Navy.

The lone P-50 crashed after a supercharger blew up, ending the program.

I love these planes, and often wonder how they (especially the F5F) would have compared in combat conditions.

Same goes with the He-100.

Actually, the lower photo also shows the XF5F after it was modified and used for gathering data for the XF7F program. Below is a photo of the XP-50, it used a tricycle landing gear (no tail wheel like the XF5F) and the carb inlets atop the cowling rings are omitted with the turbo installation.
