Battlestar Galactica on SciFi tonight

http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/

I dunno....they keep saying things like "Its like a play and we're re doing it differently, yet creatively".

Kinda reminds me of that "Embedded" play spoofing off embedded reporters in the Iraq war....

Bad vibes....but we'll see

My prediction...lotsa eye candy, thin plot...nothing less, nothing more.

I'm definately gonna watch.  This isn't Star Wars, this is BG.  The series had great special effects, but not so super scripts.

Olmos (the new Adama) has said that fanboys of the original series probably won't like this, so if you're a card carrying member of the Dirk Benedict fan club and just spent $750 on a set of 'Bonanza' VHS tapes so you can imagine Adama riding a horse in the wild west, then this might not be for you.

If, on the other hand, you liked the story idea and are curious about what they'll do with it, it's worth checking out.

So far, bette than the original... but thats not saying much, is it? :)

the space scenes are VERY Well done. I love how the fighters stabilize using fume thrusters. And the radar and multi function displays look very nice and realistic.

aside from the soap operaish crap, this is turning better than I expected.

I read an interview with Edward James Olmos who said he did not recomend anyone watching it.

Watching it now, mixed ideas on it.

Commander Adomma's most briliant tactic as a leader was to "launch all Vipers"  lol

Fridaddy, he DIDN'T say "don't watch it".

Quote
I must say one thing and will say this very clearly," Olmos told critics as the Sci Fi Channel's session was drawing to a close. "If you are a person who really has a strict belief in the original, I would not advise that you watch this program. It'll hurt them.

"We really don't stand true to the kind of characters that were built around the original. It definitely does break the mold. Some of the characters' names are the same, but the intent and the way that we are building the reality is completely not the reality that was built in the original."

Get your quotes right.  This is the same kind of thing that starts stupid misquotes like saying the Gore claimed he invented the internet (he didn't say that) or that George Washington said Jews should be killed (also not true).

Did you screw up on purpose so you could get a reaction?  Or was it an honest mistake?

The original Starbuck is worse IMO. LOL that character was cringeworthy.
Maybe its because I'm of a different generation, but that original one was cringeworthy.

The original was a HUGE let down to me as a kid. I remember reading a preliminary article about it in a sci-fi mag with sketches and everything (and a nice pic for a 13 year old boy of Hanoi Jane from Barberlla on the back cover :)). Then there was the hype, and the promotions... I was expecting Star Wars on TV... Arrgh! Buck Rogers in the 21st century was better (at least Erin Gray in those disco space jumsuits)
