ATI 9800 PRO Problems
« on: December 09, 2003, 11:47:19 PM »
just got a new  P4     2.66 Ghz with 512 DDR, 128 Radeon Pro

everything is set to where it needs to be

dxdiag is ok

sound accelleration is 3/4 now

bios is set at 64mb AGP (used to be 128)

wave in is off (so i dont get jitters when micing down)

all updated drivers, video card, sound card ect

and I STILL get game jittering when coming out of hangar to clipboard (going from convergance or load out ect) while flying, and this is annoying me!!!

all this money for new PC and high end card to still get screen jittering? WTF?

ive done all I can to make settings the right way, just dont know where to look

Definately turn on vsync.  Also, you might consider setting your AGP bus speed to 4X, and disable fast writes in the ATI SmartGart control panel.

even better way would be to disable fast writes in the bios, since smartgart is sometimes problematic :)

Ok, done all that, worked with skuzzy all day today with driver issues, and it was thought to be a "Resolution" problem and after doing some tests, it seems that the hesitation is still there.........

When they came to the apt to install road runner cable, the installer told me that the signal was real weak, but would work. I dont know if "this" would have anything to do with it? would it?

Im losing it here on ideas of what it could be now!! LOL:eek:

Does this "jittering" look like a subtle start/stop type thing like you are loosing frames?

I had a problem similar to this with my 9600.  I was unable to get rid of the stuttering and ended up returning it for a ti-4600.

The only thing I didn't try during all my fooling around with it was turning the agp from 8x to 4x.

Check your agp setting and if its at 8x, try setting at 4x and see what happens.

Does it do it offline, with no other input (from any device)?

If not, then it is not the video card or driver.  What frame rate do your get?

If it does not do it offline, then it is not a video issue.

Any chance you could film the issue you are having?  I would like to see what you are seeing as to make a better comment on what it is.

I updated all drivers "after" installing AH, was told to completely uninstall AH and reinstall it... remove it so that its now loaded "on top" of the old one?

I will try this, film it and go from there......

the recommended ping program is Ping Plotter. DL and install the free vers. type this address in the address bar 216.91.187.39  (that's the address to the Main Arena at HTC), and let it run. After a hundred pings or so, take a screen shot of it and send it to Skuzzy. He LOVES looking at dem numbers  :D
