The end of the Intardnet as we know it ?

Wouldn't be surprised if Western unis, military and service providers get together and create internet 2 (like they created the current Internet some 40 years ago). This would provide us with a free-ish Internet as opposed to the un thugs one where everything but their gvt party line would be  banned. The "Internet" in china and saudi arabia are a good taste of what's to come...

The UN is pretty bad when it comes to managing things, and they are known big beurocracy inefficent anti free market socialits. The internet so far has developed so well (after its cold war roots of course)  precisely beacuse of its free private nature, the UN will find a way to censor it and impose their anti-capitaliost anti-us and incresingly anti-western view of global politics.

The internet could very well be an example of technology leaping way ahead of politics.  It's the new atomic bomb imho.  Looks like a cold war brewing over control of the internet.

I believe the days of free communication are over.  Think about how unsecured the internet is, unless you have a closed loop system.  Soon as you use it, it starts gathering information about you.  Who the hell wants that?

I'm all in favor of the exchange of ideas, but imho the internet is not the best way to communicate between countries, some of which may be at war, even a cold one.  A war the magnitude of WWII would see an end to the internet as we know it.  We would have to become HAM radio operators and learn Morse Code to say "Hi" to each other.  Something I think about and don't want to happen.  (But it would be kinda neat tapping out coms on a key.):)

I don't know.  I appreciate this game and the good people here that play it.  I have learned some things here, and had a splended time reading the posts.  This is the best place to hear diverse opinions among some smart cookies.  I'll say that.  This board is the only one I would ever post on, because we all have one thing in common.  We play AH, which is a martial art of sorts, though that may seem a stretch compared to traditional art.  It still involves work and learning.  There is value in it from an entertainment standpoint.  It is a service to humanity.

Fair enough only you SLo are to comment on the UN. :)

What does Bush have to do with this? I dont want the US government controling the internet either, allready some of the bastiges want to impose taxes on internet business...

And certainly dont want some idiotic UN commission running it either, I'll bet they will put some mongolian sheepherder in charge of the whole internet. Just like they put Libya or Iran to head the human rights commision. Or put the Iraqi delegation to head the weapons non-proliferation talks. And yes I know it was alphabetical, and frankly that kind of the idiotic arbitrary random nonsensical stupididy is exactly the problem with the UN...

But the UN is not the US and if you are suffering from wiener envy you would prefer anyone over the US. It is all about emasculating the most powerful country and the most powerful economic force in the world.

Of course I can't see any of the posts you are responding to Grunherz so I really don't know what you are talking about. But based on my ignore list I am sure it is scintillating.
