getting ready for the coming riots...
« on: December 11, 2003, 08:39:31 AM »
Found this cool site that is converting wheel guns to take full moon clips...

Not a new idea, I have a 1917 smith .45 acp that took half moon (5 round) clips but now they make full moon (6 round)clips for it..

well... the wheelgun is starting to come into it's own again!  guys are winning matchs with 8 round smith .357's and full moon (8 round in this case) clips..

I am thinking of having my cut down .44 mag Ruger belly gun converted to take the full moon clips.. they cut down the back of the cylinder to give enough headspace for the extra thickness of the clip.

You can still shoot regular .44's as they will headpace on the throat but... with the clips, you should be able to load as fast as a semi auto with magazines.   The clips are very stout and hiold the rounds in very well so you can just throw em in a pocket if you want.

Lazs, you has a full moon clip in your big green safe when I came to visit. Which gun is that for? I thought it had 6 rounds not 5.

Also, that .22 we were using - was that the converted .45, or was the .45 a converted .22? I'm confused. Maybe we weren't firing the converted gun at all. Please clarify. And which gun was the "Witness"? There was that, the .44 Magnum - what was the name of the third gun?

Also, did you see the Dirty Harry films? Clint had a .44 magnum with some sort of full moon clip arrangement - are the clips always metal, or is there a plastic version that can withstand the heat?

Don't worry about the riots. We had a riot when Tomato and myself came to visit. ;)

yes SOB its a revolver

lazs is jusat a hillbilly hik in the corn fields..

SHEEEEEE YOOOOuuuuu oooT..

yeeeehaaaw wheel guns!!!!1

dat der car gonn get shooted up!!

btw..i dont think u could ever beat a auto loader

1) unlok wheel-swing out
2) push rod in to remove moon clip
3) grab a moonclip with fresah rounds
4)insert and close wheel

now with auto

1) hit eject btton- clip falls to ground
2) grab new clip...push in
3)hit slide lok to close

defnlty faster in semi auto..

i do use the fast loaders for my ruger357(belly gun) they are 5 round holders

but they do not store very compactly..like magazines do..

my 15 round and even 30 round  mags for my 9mm work dam fine.

not much of a revolver fan ( i own 1) but i have fired the ruger vaqueros with some 10oz triggers...dam those are bad asssss 44longcolts

nice improvement but..still not that great.

ahhh lazzzsss poo..u will be faster!!!  because the guy in the semi auto is still firing ..hes got more ammo in the gun:)

yep beetle.. the 1917 smith had full moon clips... hit the wrong number tho..  half moon clips are 3 per half moon.   the 22 was a witness and was sold as a .45 but I bought a 22 conversion for it.  dirty harry used speed loaders.   not quite as fast as full moon clips and clumsy.  the speedloader holds the rounds but is discarded after the rounds are in the gun.

ggmaw.. no such thing as a 44 longcolt.   the wheelgun is still the fastest gun available from holster to target.   also... you aint throwing a slide back and forth... wheelgun is faster than an auto.  wheelguns don't jam.   they can shoot a variety of ammo in the same cylinder.   It has been proven in matches that the full moon clip guys are beating the magizine guys on the reload.

44 mag is a pretty decent caliber.   I like the way it reaches out.   I have several autoloaders including the one beetle is talking about and a kimber eclipse custom in .45 acp.

when ya gotta hit something 100 or more yards out tho you probly want a good ol wheelgun.   44 shoots flat compared to .45 acp.

Got nothing against autos burt still like the power and versatility of the wheelgun.

If you put lazs and Ripsnort together, you would end up with Burt from Tremors:
