Hello ladies,

I've seen quite a few posts asking about system requirements for Aces High and concerns about the poor blokes with older/slower computers.

I'm just curious, with the buying power of the aces high community, is there anyone out there who deals with computers for a living that could offer a killer deal on a Aces High Screamer for these potential customers?

Just looking out for my fellow...targets.=)

Arc T, out.

P.S.- If ya happen to have a special deal for 'Aces High Customers' only on 19" monitors... I could use one of those myself.

P.S.S. - Vermin check 6 !!!!! lol

You know, there are actually one or two startups out there whose business models are founded on this sort of thing.

What they're doing is the "flip side" of the online auction. It's called "demand aggregation" or something like that. Participating vendors list items for sale (let's say 19" monitors) at a given starting price (let's say $450--I should note that I'm just pulling quantities and dollar figures outta my six view). If so many people (let's say 20 for the sake of argument) agree to buy a monitor, their price drops to, say, $425. Round up 50 buyers, and the price might go to $399, and so on.

There's a floor level below which the price will never fall regardless of the sales volume, but I think you get the idea. I wish I had the URLs for the sites, but I can't remember them (only heard about it on NPR news--that's National Public Radio for those outside the US). I'll do a search on various permutations of "demand aggregation" to see if I can turn something up.

I know of some automotive BBS where guys who are fans of a certain car got together to get a wholesale price on custom wheels.  I'm sure it could be done here (although my system is fine, thanks).

I know exactly what Flathat is talking about and remember the NPR report.  This sounds like a perfect vehicle for AH junkies Come on the first one is always free boys & girls.  That's the first rule of the pusher-man.

Race ya to get those URLs Flathat!

Ha! Got it.

There are two companies mentioned in the NPR report.  This short report is available in RealAudio at NPR's web site.

The two comanies are, accompany.com, in which Mark Andreesen is a key shareholder and, mercata.com, in which Paul Allen is involved.  Visited both sites.  Although Accompany had search fields for 3DFX, Diamond, etc.  There were no products available now.  There were also no CPU, motherboard, or OEM computer manufacturers listed here.  There is a place to request products however.

At Mercata, the emphaisis seems to be on consumer goods and no major componenet or OEMs are listed at the site.

Looks like everyone's best bet is still going straight to the manufacturer, i.e. Dell or going, like I did to build my AH-ready system, through pricewatch.com to buy componenets.
