Score tells all.:)

What should your score tell us Skull or what isn't your score telling us?

Nah, score means little.  It may or may not indicate skill; more often it indicates playing style.

Yeah, I agree Lev.

But it does tell you some basics about a persons ability as well.

For example if a person was just playing an arcade style, who cares if you die, Quake arena, you would think that their K/D ratio would suck.

Huh do I mean much like Jack and Beet.  Ahh beet I wanted to lump you in there, but alas I cant.  Good job, nice K/D history, you at least do fly to live.  But jack ole boy, for god sakes your K/D was .9 last tour.  You bet I do.

So then I thought ok maybe jack is just a little slow.  So I looked at his Hit%eges.  Low and behold they are respectable.  It at least tells me that jack can hit the broad side of a barn.

So then I started thinking.  Hmmmm a familiare pattern...  can hit stuff but never lives.  What does that sound like.   One more time, kills stuff but kills himself too, alot.  Wait, I got it.  Suiciders.  Quarter wheeling, arcade, unlimited death sweetheart bag fuel porking Jacal1.:D

Thats what his score tells me.  So I agree, score is not perfect but The components of the score are telling.

But still Lev,

How does your score misrepresent you?

I asked skull but he couldn't say it any better.

Honestly Skull how does your score misrepresent you?  It's one thing to make bold statements, but please back it up.

I used to think that score and the various ratios mattered...

mars, you sound like a real ace to me.

(All the pun in the world intended)

Oh, and mars... Please do tell us how to play, we're completely lost. We want maybe to be half as great as you.

jakal... ur little green ballon heads are starting to foam at the mouth...

I agree that score means nothing and lev is right, stats indicate style... I mean, if you cherry pick you can have a 60/1 k/d if you are very cautious in late war planes or, if you allways attack planes that are in superior numbers you might only get a couple before you die  but....

your k/d stats would indicate that every time you ran into anybody you have a better than 50/50 chance of him/them/the ground, kicking your butt before you can even get off a shot.   If you are playing the widely diverse and highly complex strat "chessmaster of the sky" game that you claim and simply on a "missun" when you fly, not caring about death but working for a higher power and goal.... then your missun must be.....

try to ram the first plane you see and hope for the best.

Like I said, stats may indicate skill but not necessarily.  Someone who obtains a massive K/D ratio through cautious flying might not hold a candle in 1v1 combat to a guy with a K/D below 1.  A guy with a 4/1 K/D ratio... is he a bad BnZer or a great furballer? It's all about context.  For example, the FDBs are a bunch of decent sticks who care little about score or stats.  You're not going to get any sense of how they fly or how well they fly by looking at their stats.

For an individual example, take a look at Honch.  The guy flies P-40s for God's sake.  No matter how skilled he is, he's almost guaranteed to have a lower K/D ratio and K/H than someone in a faster, better armed, better turning plane.  So again, context matters.

yep.. agreed..  you need to factor in a lot of things.    Early war, less capable planes take more skill to do well in. you "earn" your kills more... a high K/H means that you fight more ioften and in harms way more.

you can probly guess that a guy flying a d9 or p51 with a 10/1 k/d and 3 k/h is flying very caustiously and  mostly taking the risk free kills...  maybe someone who has good skills or not... for sure he doesn't get much air to air combat experiance..

you can probly guess that the guy with a 3/1 kd and 12 k/h in a p40  is a tough guy to run up against..  that he is going where the fight is and mixing it up.   He has lots of experiance in difficult situations.

surely there are exceptions but over a few tours the stats tell a lot about a player.

Work the edges of the fight Iron. Don't go into the middle of it and expect to live. I have a 10 kill Hurri 2 sortie on film where I stay on the fringes of the fight w/o going into the middle of it. If you want to see it let me know.
