Can you guys build additional functionality that would allow the pilot the choice to have the guncamera operate only when the guns are firing.

I believe the real McCoy operated only when the trigger was held in the firing position.  This would be neat-o and capture the data in a manner consistent with the real deal.  Then again, maybe it wouldnt be so neat...just an idea.

Thanks for reading.

If anyone knows how the gun cam really worked in WWII, I would like to know.

I did see a doc on a Japanese plane and (assuming) american plane, going in to a spiral dive. It did end at the Deck. Litterally at tree top level when the Axis plane was forced to fly level before getting shot down.
Point being, if the gun cam turns on only when the trigger is squeezed.... this allied plane must have had a load to give.

The trigger was more than likely a two position switch that you squeeze once to first detent to turn on the camera and pull again to fire to second detent to fire guns.

If that is the case Indian, I must say I definitely dont have that special touch. I find myself too many times in a situation where I'm out of cannons (TM setup dual trigger). Due to the stress and intense train of thought, when dogfighting. :-)

Thanks for the info!

If it is changed I hope its optional, the current film recorder is great for analyzing your dogfights.

I know that a lot of early gun cameras took the place of an actual gun.  They had to remove one gun and put the camera in its place.  A lot of pilots didn't like loosing the extra gun.

To my knowledge most were tied to the trigger.

I suggested the guncamera/trigger combo earlier, but upon reflection, I'm not sure this is a good idea...as it is now, you can start the camera at the beginning of an engagement, and film all the way through. If it were keyed to trigger as a toggle, then all you would film would be the end game, not any of the maneuvering to the guns solution.

It would be nice to be able to choose between the two.
Full flight cam for learning and teaching
and an "at the moment" cam so you can just watch and relish the bullets stiking while making a kill later on.

Ok,
Fire burst............ fire burst...............fire 1 sec burst.................burst (scare him into an error)...................burst..... ...........(bogey stalls)2-3 sec burst he explodes.

Now, lets visualize that on a trigger activated camera. Dont think I'd learn much from watching this. Yes? No?

Suggestion. Based on Nostalgia.

If we do get Gun Cam. Can we have it in back and white.
While colour is more pretty. Blk n white would be more nostalgic and give it a little character.

Perhaps the flickering white streaks as well hehe

I vote for optional setup.

I have used a replay of a recording to get "snapshots" of the game.  I have show them to friends at work and they are amazed at the graphic detail.

I would like to see a conversion utility to make MPEGs or AVIs out of sections of tape if possible.  Would be a good for building a "easy to use" training library.

Also would be a nice recruiting tool!

I don't know how helpful that would be.  The film viewer is intended for a much deeper purpose than just a guncam.

I don't know if we could make an MPEG converter, but that would be nice.

All very good input!

It was not an idea to replace the movie capture but merely to add a small additional
capability.  For me at least, seeing just those moments where bullits are flying, and striking hopefully, is what I finally want to see.

It was an idea whos time had come (and passed apparently as well...hehe)

I tend to think that 1 mode of film making is enough.  Either "On" or "Off" .   The trigger in my plane is on and off....sometimes a lot!    For the most part, I think the other possible features and benefits will out weigh this request.  And I dont want to fill my HD with trigger shots!

Punting, would like to be able to toggle to the trigger and make little B&W MPGs someday.
