Did Me-262 had an extra loadout for 24 Air 2 Air rockets?

Yep. Two dozen R4M rockets carried on two wooden racks just outboard of the engines. A dozen rockets per rack. Occasionally a ground attack aircraft (190-F8) would carry them for anti-tank work.

There is a picture of a B24 immediatly after a 262 struck it with a r4m.  at Castle Air Museum.   one hit one kill, with a 20 odd # warhead.

Would be very sweet indeed, the 190 F8 need them most though.

The cannons in the 262 were never exchanged for the R4M's, not in combat anyway, pretty sure they were never even tried on instead of the cannons. There were some other planes that had the nose filled with them though but those were never taken into action either afaik.

AmRaaM, they were mounted under the wings, not in nose instead of the cannons.

The one with rockets in its nose were the Ba 349 'Natter'

Fritz-X was usually carried by the Do-217, did quite a bit of damage in the Med until Allies learned to extend the air cover farther out from the fleets.

Luftwaffe used those big rockets on closely packed buff formations from beyond rear gun range, I'm thinking usually off Bf-110's or similar large aircraft.  Sometimes a hit on one buff would cause explosion that would take out others.  The theory was that thinning out the formation would make things easier for the 109's and 190's.

Btw, has anyone ever actually gotten a buff kill with the Bf-110's AH rocket loadout?

I killed a lanc but it was moot anyway rocket range from 6 is 1000 yds give or take, took his left wing off , my cannons tore his right off.

There is no historical out of "effective" gun range for AH buffs.
