Get rid of it... it's pointless.

There speaks a person who would deny some people the chance of something they enjoy a lot just because he does not like it.

If you try night combat properly, it is very good. It requires more effort and more skill.

Perhaps you;re just not up to it?

AH is a WW2 air combat simulator, and half of WW2 was at night, believe it or not. Now if you;re going to argue for half of the subject matter to be thrown away, let me argue that we should through away all US  and Japanese planes.  With UK, German, Italian and Russian planes we can do a fair job of simulating the European half of the war. heck, we can even use  Lancs and Halifaxes as subs for B17s and B24s....

no? Sounds silly?

So does attempts to do away with night.  What we REALLY need is for AH to model night PROPERLY.

And any of you kiddies that are scared of the dark can simply fly in another arena - thats what having multiple arenas are for, OK?

I bet that if it had been the UK did the daylight bombing campaign against Germany and the US that did the night raids, all the US gamers would be screaming for better simulation of the night game.

Esme my friend.  Night sucks, it's gamey ( with everyone that "enjoys" it turning up their gamma settings )

Those that don't are meat..

Any resemblence to real night fighting is silly.

LOOK AT MY ICON.

It's a logging device. Let the sun go down, the log begins..

Nopoop, m'dear, you have merely demonstrated how well you have missed the point. In AH as is, you can indeed do that. I said improve the night as simulated in AH, yes? As in the software gets tinkered with...

So it gets really dark (remember WB2 without the textures? People bawling that they couldnt see? And here's me not only bombing targets, but also grabbing a 110 and landing 2 of 3 sorties in it (the third I got shot down by a Wilde Sau 190). Hadnt occurred to me back then that folk might mess with tehir monitors, and when I tried it offline, in WB2 "2D" it didnt make much difference)) AND there's no icons.  There's no NEED for icons at night.   Program in nights that are not always moonlit (hell, in the current AH night, its just like daylight, but with the sky painted black - no NEED to mess with gamma to see properly!), have plenty of clouds, and kill the flippin icons at night.  In a stroke, it'd make night air combat less prone to gamey behaviour.  For ground combat, we'd need extra GVs so that people could distinguish friend from foe visually, if close enough (so, Sherman and T34, plus the German infantry halftrack, maybe).

Also, of course, I'm thinking about organised games, here, rather than the MA. If the MA crowd dont want night, it's no skin off my nose. But I want the option for full night in the CMs hands so that night combat games CAN at least be run.  Always ADD to the game, guys - don't try to diminish it.

Me, I think you're just afraid of the dark, Nopoop... ;-P

!

Esme

God grant me the ability to knife-fight in fighters half so well as Nopoop, and I'd be ten times better at it than I am today... :-)

Erm... AH in no way models WW2. So I am told. Trying to think who it was who told me that...

That is correct. It models WW2 style air combat. Well, at least it used to and before they changed the blurb on the game website, that was emphatically stated. The blurb changed about the time they overhauled the website entirely, IIRC.

Nonetheless, the "night" we have, given the planes we have, has nothing to do with either WW2 style night air combat or night aircombat in WW2 itself.

And what did the RAF bomb at night? Hmmnn? Read the history of WW2?

As I;ve said, the POINT is so that organised games in it CAN be run for those who wish it.  If you don't wish it, don;t play in it, simple as that! I'm quite happy for you to be furballing somehwere sunny whilst I play cat and mouse with the nightfighters over Birmingham or Cologne, m'dear.

And the bombsight we have in AH is NOT, repeat, emphatically NOT a simulation of a Norden bombsight. .. (mutter grumble...) ;-)

Let's have BETTER night simulation. :-)

Esme (the nit-picky, when it comes to bombsights) :-)
