LOL ... sorry ... it was doubtful that the date was selected because of it's historical significance. You give the EA suits WAY too much credit there. ;)

LOL  yer right Arlo.  My Dad was in WWII in PAC, and I'm retired AF,
it just made me mad that they picked THAT date to end a WWII
flt sim.

EA had an online car game.  "Motor City Online" .  They cancelled it after a couple of years.
After AW III, I try my best to avoid any EA product.
In the end, It worked out for the best anyway.

i happened to have an old hard drive laying around which i was thinking at the time to install a linux distro on to try it out (windows dweeb) before formatting the old drive i noticed aw was still installed on it. i loaded it up and went offline.

even though i havnt played that game in forever, i still managed to remember most of the important controls.

it was sad in  a way, to revisit it

No, the Vietnam idea was dropped long before the death of AW.  Never fancied the jets myself anyway (those look good though).  :)

"Is this true?"

Kind of

Using a newsreader go to   news.bigweek.org   (choose the "general" group)  and make a post with this line the subject line

"MAGE! Give me AW4 beta access NOW" and you'll be sent the proper replies to respond to.

Good luck. and don't take NO for an answer from the peanut gallery. They like to joke around alot.

If you want the key to access the old AW4 beta or have Mage email you one of the many copies of the old AW4 beta he has, you have to go to the newsgroup Westy posted and ask there.

You might also want to ask DeadDuck what the IP address of his server is that he's got the AW4 beta H2H arena set up on.

Thanks Westy :aok

It came up page not found...do you not user a browser to connect to the newsgroup?? Westy said something about a newsreader or somethin, I don't have one.  I've got an AW4 but i think it's Alpha not Beta...Basicly you double click it and you start off about 5k flying a Pony with a bunch planes in front of you...

If you're using Windows Internet Explorer then use Outlook Express by clicking on the envelope on you menu taskbar then dropping down to "read news." That'll open an OE window. Click on "tools" and go down to "accounts". In the accounts window select the "add" button. Select "news." It'll ask for name (type in your nick), email address (type it in or something bogus that looks like an email address if you want to keep it private), the third window will ask for the nntp server (type in the BigWeek address there). That should have you set-up. Your OE will then show a catagory called "BigWeek". Select it then have fun going through 15 bazillion threads (unless you go back up to the toolbar - edit - "mark all read" then select -view- current view - hide read messages.

Good luck. I mean it. :D
