Warp Cheating

In recent months I have encountered a number of warps where the warping was apparently intentionally induced. These incidents are increasing in frequency and constitute a serious integrity of the game issue. Two warp cheat events are described below.

In one instance, I was climbing and watching a P-51 at 5k distance. His distance was steady. Suddenly, I saw a warp streak and a P-51 was shooting at me from the rear. If I hadn't been watching him at the time, I might have thought I was just not checking my 6.

This morning, another instance occurred which seemed way beyond coincidental.

I zoomed down on a P-38 and was on his butt at about 400 yds when he zipped away to about 2k to my right. Later, I saw him do the same thing when others were on him. He was doing it continuously. I later blew him apart. I am not sure whether I got a kill or assist, but I got his name.

When I challenged his warping, I got no response from him, but several other knights said they had seen it too.

I am not sure how to induce warp, but I have heard it can occur if you film or take a picture.

Getting rid of picture taking and filming may be necessary to stop warp cheats. Whatever is needed though, I hope it will be done. Cheating in this way can destroy the game.

I know how to induce warps and Im gona share it with everyone. Whenever you get in trouble you take a pair of sissors and snip the phone cord that goes into the wall. You get an instant out from a bad situation. You can also pour water on your modem or give it a good firm wack, no love taps, give it a good smack.

I have seen a few incidence that were suspect, and one that was outright blatent cheating.  This isnt bad considering Ive been on since the beta.  Most people dont cheat like this because its easy to be spotted/recorded/banned.  Many times when someone seems to be cheating this way its because you tend to get into an advantagous position because the lag makes their flightpath predictable...and thats whne your most likely to saddle up on their six...then POOF...they arnt where they are.

...and I am not convinced Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the killing of JFK.

So what's that mean?

Provide HTC with the evidence.  Speculation is one thing.  Film the suspected incidents and beam it to em!  Otherwise, some will interpet this as a whine.

Heard of packet loss?

Also, he may have not responded for a number of reasons. the obvious of which is he had chnl 1 squelched - which i do from time to time.

Not saying this person wasnt cheating for sure, just saying often the simplest answer is often the truth.

Its real easy Jeret....film talks and roadkill walks.

If you think they are cheating, film it and send it to HTC and let them sort it out.  Coming here to the BBS and posting this "the sky is falling" paranoid crap isn't good for anybody.

While you are all so ready to flame Jeret, let me share this with you.

A couple of months ago I was flying happily around one of our bases when I saw a low flying dot, which looked big enough to be a C47.

So I dived in and to my delight it was just that - a big juicy goon. I got within about 3k of him, when he started to warp. After about 3 seconds of warping something didn't seem right. After 10 seconds something definitely wasn't right - the goon had warped about 5 miles right above our base. I'd assumed it was a disconnect warp and flew to our base, to see that about 3 friendlies were trying to shoot it down. The C47 was very much connected and had apparently warped into the base and dropped the goons. However, no-one could get a shot. I tried myself, but as soon as I got within 1k, he warped away - everyone else was having the same problem.

This happened shortly after with a B-26. It was the same guy.

One of us emailed HT with our films and he, AFAIK, banned the perpetrator. I myself filmed a bit of the action.

So in short, 'controllable' warping has been used to cheat - film it and send it to HTC and let them deal with it.

Solving the warp problem seems easy. The  server should only remember the previous possition (x,y,z) sent by every player and compare it with the last sent and maintaining a warp counter for every player too. If the displacement between previous and actual possition is big the player warp counter is incremented by one, three warps and the player is automatically disconnected.

Whenever I see a warp, I immediately check my net status (Clipboard/Setup/NET STATUS) and make sure I don't have any spikes before I call out on Ch.1 to the person who warped.

There have been many posts about this.  I've always assumed that it's either my connection, or the warper's connection.

When it's my connection, it's pretty obvious...EVERYONE in sight warps in my view.  I assume that I am warping to everyone else, in that case.  I've just always assumed that the people I see warping are having the same problem...lag and/or packet loss.

Having said that, I've read a post that there is a "speed hack" that has been in use in games like Counter Strike and Quake for some time.  It produces the same results.  The poster said it works also with this game, because it does something with your internet connection software (or something like that?).

As others have said, film the incident, and send it in.

It has happened to me many times to shoot an enemy and see the plane bounce away or jump all alone; ive asked myself if it was cheating or not (just to not whine immediately on txt channel), and ive remained with a doubt.
Recently it has happened the same thing with two persons (i've shot them after :P  and I know who they were)that I consider very good and correct guys, so after having checked my conn, my conclusion has been,"it MUST be their connection is bad".
Still maintaining the same idea and having faith in Pyro & C. for banning real cheaters

I was around and the user using "warp on demand" was pretty solid on my end.
