Yuletide = good

There are some advantages to Yuletide/X-mas.

My sis gave me a present in advance. Since I quit smoking, she reconned she'd save money because I'd not borrow so much from her, so she got me this:

A Bonehead Mindwarp 2002! Pretty neat (and expensive) gift.

And what did she get in return? I'm almost ashamed; three t-shirts with the following print:

Front:

Back:

It's impossible to tell that she's a medical doctor and I'm an unemployed bum, right? :D.

And I gave myself a pair of freefly pants for X-mas - they haven't gotten here though.

So, what have you gotten already and what are you treating yourself with? I know you chaps buy gifts for yourselves. You're AH'ers for chrissakes!

Well since I plan to do photography professionally on a part time basis and XMas, our anniversary, and my B-Day are close together, we treated me to the following to start:

Canon 10D dslr
  "   550EX speed light
  "   70-200mm f/2.8L U lens
  "   1.4x extender
Bogen/Manfrotto 475B tripod and 3039 3-way head
Hoya SMC Pro-1 UV 77mm filter

She was pointing at the items and saying "Merry Christmas."
"Happy Anniversary." "Happy Birthday."

You know, just what I always wanted! Right size, right color, etc :D

<-----happy camper

As I thought. AH'ers would outdo my sister with their presents to themselves.

You're all filthily rich scums, you know that? :D

Really nice gift, SaburoS. I'm looking at the Canon 300D (I think it's called Digital Rebel in USA); although it's cheaper than the 10D, it's still a good upgrade from my Canon A70... or maybe I will wait for the Nikon F70 to be released. I hate spending big money on something just to see a much better product for the same price a pair of moths later...

Get the 300D!! No way the F70 is going to be better (that would kill the D100 sales) IMHO. Canon's competition got caught with their pants down with the intro of the 300D. They're playing catch up. I chose the 10D because I wanted the higher frame buffer and more custom controls. The 300D takes just as good pictures as the 10D (basically the same sensor). It has 2 advantages over the 10D:
1) Lighter weight. Don't confuse the polymer body as being flimsy. In fact it feels very stiff. It is actually more stiffer than the D60.
2) Faster lower light focusing (not using an external speedlight). Not many cameras can focus down to 0.5ev that the 300D can. The 10D can "only" focus down to 2.0ev.

What kind of photography do you enjoy doing? If mainly indoors, and close outdoor shots, get the 17-40mm f/4.0L.
If you want a very good all around telephoto/zoom, get the 70-200mm f/4.0L. Both are top rated esp for the money.

You'll love the 300D. You won't go back to a P & S camera again.
