Better that folks abandon that area of the map than have them log off and abandon the main arena all together. That's what happens now. Deja, when things are down folks will abandon that area anyway, right now they do it by switching sides or logging off to do it. The key is to give them some way to play in the main arena despite the situation. You can't force people to defend at a disadvantage if they don't want to, so I see no reason why a reasonable alternative within the arena would hurt. If anything, I believe a "fighter town" arangement would keep more people in the main on the disadvantaged side, and give you a much better chance of getting a rally going to defend or reclaim territory. If folks had a place to muck about for 15 minutes until an FH pops back up, that would be great. As it is, you get situations where there are 3 bases and no FH's... so folks switch or log. That's just not a good situation in my opinion. I've not heard a better solution to the problem.
Deja, at least it's something to try. Better than no solution at all, which seems to be the alternative. I think we agree that separate arenas are not the answer either.
I'm still looking for a valid reason why a "fighter town" would be bad for the arena. So far "because we can't force people to defend the last few bases" is all I've heard. The bottom line is you can't force people to play that way anyway. I say it's better to have folks stay online in the main than have them log. Better for all the players, including those who like to play the strat game.
FWIW, I'm hoping the redesigned field layouts with more FH's and player manable acks will help the situation.
BTW, <S> DejaVu for the polite discussion we are having, despite our disagreement on this topic.
