Nose bounce revisited, (and partially eliminated)...
« on: December 19, 1999, 06:45:00 AM »
Dudes, (and dudettes),

I've been wraking my brains trying to work out what it is that I do different with my joystick to stop the "nose bounce" some people are experiencing while making changes in pitch or yaw.

This is my stick.cfg file from AH.

0,33024,65535,0.000000,0.500000
0,33792,65535,0.050000,0.500000
0,65535,65535,0.050000,0.500000
0.10,0.20,0.30,0.40,0.50,0.60,0.70,0.80,0.90,1.00
0.07,0.17,0.28,0.37,0.50,0.56,0.68,0.75,0.87,1.00
0.09,0.18,0.28,0.37,0.50,0.56,0.68,0.79,0.87,1.00

I use a Micro$oft Sidewinder 3d Pro, (the twisty stick).  I use the twisty for the rudder and the hat for views.

I knock off a few % for the pitch and yaw values because I'm a fairly light hand on the stick, (I rarely push the stick to it's limits of travel).  If you're having a lot of problems with the yaw or nose bounce I'd suggest starting with a smaller value than I do and use a smaller increment, (ie start at 0.05 and increase in .05 increments).

I suggested to another pilot tonight that they change their settings to be more of a curve, (very low on the left sliders and higher on the right).  While it hasn't eliminated all of the nose bounce it made the plane much easier for them to fly.
