Anyone Flying Flight Simulator 2004?
« Reply #15 on: January 01, 2004, 08:37:27 AM »
Of course, I'm grounded until my Cougar comes back from the shop some I'm not flying but I was really enjoying FS2004.

I loved the way ATC was fixed. Its nice and accurate now.

I've dowloaded some fun stuff like the C-119 and the Grumman Trader.

I also just bought MyTraffic which rocks. All real world traffic flying where and when it should...totally cool!

What I really need now and I don't mind paying for it:

Some cool adventures where you can fly rescue or ANYTHING with a purpose and maybe be rated on performance.

Second, an add on that puts ground crews and trucks etc at the airport...preferably moving...(Not a program that lets me add stuff...one where it's already added...I'm lazy!)

Thanks for any advice.

Muck:  you could get involved with one of the virtual airlines and they will keep you busy and purposful. The Margarita Air Club may be worth a look for you; it's pretty relaxed and new missions for those interested are popping up frequently. http://www.margaritaair.com

Just signed up with TMAC and Vatsim.

If I can't fly for a while, I'll learn to become a virtual ATC!!

LePaul, from the Flightsim site..

CHECK YOUR CACHE SETTINGS
For many people this is the key to using Web sites like FlightSim.Com where the pages change dynamically. Exactly how you adjust your cache settings depends on the browser you are using, and since there are so many versions we cannot give exact instructions. You'll simply have to learn how to use the software you are running. In general, browsers use one of the following ways of controlling caching. There may be a check box to turn it off or on. Or they may be a cache size that you can control; setting the cache size to 0 (zero) is the same as turning it off. Or there may be check boxes which allow you to select when caching is used; set these to load the document every time.

Thanks for the note

Still no luck with the throttle issue

This game may get uninstalled and returned.  No help pages, nada...throttle works in any other flightsim ive had.

I was looking forward to flying this but having to stomp on F4 the entire time is getting old.  I'm still searching for solutions...but the fun factor is fleeting quickly

I had some problems early on with the stick settings. FS9 had programmed some of the axis to the wrong sticks and made all sortsa funny things happen - be sure you check those carefully.

Bondon, thanx for that link. Think I might give that a shot.:)

Oh yea, LePaul, did you calibrate your stick in windows? I use a X-45 and CH Pro pedals.

[EDIT]  yes....calibrated in Windows (Windows 2k Pro here)

LePaul - under Controls-Assignments, Buttons-Keys - does it recognize your joystick?

Sounds like your AXIS are conflicting or you have a spikey throttle...  Try getting Peter Dowson's FPUIC http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html

If you buy it, you'll have access to the axis spiking smoother mod.

With a new video card I am really enjoying this sim. The new cards really eat up what was once a graphic pig. The change between being able to max everything out makes a huge difference. Dubuque Iowa was just a sparse field, now its fun realistic flight to Rockford or Chicago, or to my Dad’s hangar at Platteville, Wi where I would do real flights. (That was the initial incentive). Being able to download real time realistic weather is cool too, and a breeze now that broadband is the norm.

Also found out I had a copy of the Jeppesen/Sanderson “Advance Pilot Manual”, which I found at the airport for free (1981 version) and solves a lot of questions. A good bathroom addition indeed. Search for it online. It’s pry dirt cheap.

I’m still miffed at your Saitek X45 problems Lepaul, as it has been solid on my system so, can’t help you there. I do now want the Ch Yoke Usb. I already have the Ch Pro Pedals, hope you do too, as that would be a good addition for the sim regardless if you own a Saitek.

Anyway, I highly recommend FS9, and here’s a link to the crack if it drives you nuts loading CD’s like it does me. Lotsa good other crap there too like crash effects and even a V1 bomb.

I'd really like to know where the fun is in flight sims where you just fly from one place to the other, especially in something as unexciting as a small plane. It always seems like watching paint dry to me.

Or am I missing some exciting hidden feature? Surely not IFR and taxing? lol

One of the main things I like is taking up various craft at the many different airfields all around the world.  The unmatched intuitive external view flying provides an excellent idea what the area is like.

For example, take the Bombardier up to about 20k and circle Oahu in Hawaii.  I think that's fascinating.  And the ability to explore the world like that will only get better year after year as computing power increases.

From the flight KMIA-TNCM (Miami - Saint Maarten): http://koti.mbnet.fi/fishu/fs/kmiatncm/

..and its alot more exciting in the VATSIM network, with actually living ATC and other traffic.
Anyone can fly there as far as they follow the simple rules, however extensive studies are needed to become an ATC yourself.
It's been 4 months and I've only just getting out of the senior student level and ive pretty much gone through it as fast as one possibly could :)
