HTC a suggestion for you.
« on: June 26, 2001, 11:41:00 AM »
I think lately you have had more than your fair share of demands for additions, tweaks, remodeling etc and the problem ias i see it is NOT the fact that customers are asking but the fact that it is asked for again and again, rehashing arguements etc that seem to poison the community atmosphere a little.

Well Id like to suggest one thing you could do to help slow these constantly repeated demands and that is open a NEW forum entitled HTC VIABLE PLANS/IDEAS FOR THE FUTURE

in this forum you could post a few ideas you have or are thinking of implementing. This would be the same as the news forum in that only HTC staff could add comments.customers can discuss what they have read there in other forums like gameplay or general.

The idea of this forum would be to give your customers a better idea of where you want AH to head. You could give brief explanations as to the difficulty of their implementation and maybe a estimated time frame on when and how they are introduced.
For example the MANY MANY posts asking for trains and more of this or that, that repeat things said in earlier posts and no doubt drive you crazy could be reduced considerably with a post telling us what you intend to add in the next 2-3 updates, not EVERTHING but what you'd LIKE to give us.If they dont arrive in time for the updates you could give a breif explanation as to the problems you have of implementation.
THIS is where your customers can help.telling you what they think are great ideas and possibly giving you an idea of how to fit your hopes into the game structure.

the reason i think this would be good for all? its very simple, I left AH because I wanted more (possibly unfairly, and without much regard for what it would cost you in terms of time/hard work) but I have NO IDEA what the future of the game is going to be.
Do you intend to go for the rare planes like we've seen (205,arado,ta152, planes id never seen in games), is the game going to remain the same or do you intend to evolve the structure as well as filling out plane sets?

what can we expect to see in the future?? at the time i quit i knew nothing of your plans for trains, roads, etc and so i thought 'well its not gonna change anytime soon, i may as well go try other games and come back when something grabs my attention'
well from what ive gathered you are a small team/company and cannot afford to let customers slip off for a break. If you had a forum where i could nip into and read about whats going to be implemented soon or in the near future the old excitement returns!
Your news item on trains almost made me resubscribe with boyish excitement but i though'mmm same old maps at the moment nothing new to do yet so ill wait'
Dont let me do this!!  :D tell me and others what to look forward to and ill keep playing im sure.I did this for almost 2 years after all. Each new update got me excited and even after a couple of months with the new patches I started to look forward to the next update. So it went in a pattern:
new update..excitement and new stuff to learn...then...
tried all the updated stuff learned all there is to know about the latest planes etc and start to desire more.....usually 1 month to 6-7 weeks after the update...
This is the period when i question the cost and what i get out of the game and its this period that the new forum would KEEP me here.

I dont know if you think this would be a waste of time but let me say this.
I pop into HTC forums looking for new stuff, when theres a light bulb on the NEWS section i get excited that somthing good is coming but these news items are very rare.If there was a forum dicussing your ideas or your plans i could go there, get my fix of excitement and carry on playing hoping father christmas gets here soon heheh

hope you like the idea.what do you all think?

superfly? like it or not like it?   :)

just a breif word to add and that is i just read a post by pyro which is old but i had completely missed it.This is also the problem as i see it.If we had one forum where all the stuff you want to tell us about eg flaps remodelling,f4uc and d11 weight change etc it would be seen by more of us, as it is now i miss 50% of HTC posts in the various forums.

I think it would be very nice, as it is I too get excited when there is a lightbulb on the 'News' forum. Folks would have to understand that some items are what HTC would "like" to do and that doesn't mean that it "will" happen. HTC may see that as a problem though because there is always a few people who will complain that a widget HTC wanted didn't make it due to some unforseeable issue. They also may not want competitors to know what they are up too.

Crap! I didn't mean to make case why it shouldn't be done. My fingers just kept typing on their own. It would be nice to let customers know whats up, as this is an ever evolving game.

Hazed,

The downside is that the UBB only shows messages from the last 20 days (default).  The topics would still come up over and over.

The other downside is that HTC really can't "BS" with us about future plans.  The community is prone to take "we're thinking about submarines" and turning it into "submarines are coming out" then into "where the hell are the submarines your promised".  It kinda falls into the no "when is it.." replies.

I'd really like to hear what HT has planned for the near future and distant future with this game.  I get the feeling that would never happen without an NDA or alot of beer.

Its not really all HTCs fault.  They know the beast they have to deal with.. they've been doing it for 7 years.  And of course, sometimes its a bit harder to impliment ideas than to talk about them.
