Harleys are amazing.  How can something so loud be so slow?

Umm...a Nissan with a Chevy engine?

sure why not? They are cheap to build, reliable and make great power. Plus they fit in damn near any car with a little work.

Yes, hence "rice".   But as a term of disparagement, I believe my definition applies. :)  The only reason to turn your nose up at a riceburner (if you want to turn your nose up at all) is because it is a shallow image car.

Yeah, it could be.  She could've just been lying. ;)  Still a good story though. :D  What is your source?

Wierd.  Why bother?  Is there any new tech or design in the V-rod engine?

Go to Harley home page and you can see for yourself on the technical aspects of the V-Rod engine. Pretty cool I thought.

Riceburner just told me it was Japanese built. I rode one, never really used it disparagingly.

people are confusing riceburner with riceboy.  Funkypants is a riceboy.  His car is a riceburner.

Here's what I saw:

Liquid-cooled, 1130cc, 60° V-Twin
Rubber mounted with single counter balancer
115HP @ 8500 RPM
74 FT-LB of torque @ 7000 RPM
Dual overhead cams
Four valve heads
EFI standard
5-speed
Two-tone cylinders with chrome covers
9000 redline
"Shaved" engine fins

Did I miss something?  Doesn't look like any special tech to me.

That's cool, I was responding to folks that do use the term that way. ;) It really doesn't make sense to turn one's nose up at a grapefruit-thrower civic, and in the same breath talk about harleys and muscle cars.  And 70's muscle cars at that.  Good grief, the peak of gas shortage misery and low compression garbage.  How bout them Gremlins? :D

You are right in that the specs are'nt neccesaraly special as compared to current engine technology but what is "special" about it is Harley's move toward that kind of engine in the first place. The mainstay 88 cubic inch (1450 cc) engine that is used on all thier big scooters is a two valve per head cam in block
undersquare engine (3.875"bore X 4.0" stroke) with a 5500 rpm redline.

Though a bit archaic in it's layout, it has been improved greatly from the earlier versions with new materials, head porting designs, induction and lubrication systems and most importantly (in my opinion) much tighter quality control.

These are not road burners. They really are designed with a relaxed type of riding in mind. Cruising. They eat up the miles on long trips and are basically bullet proof, something that has not always been the case in the past. It is a different experience and if you should ever get the opportunity it would be a worthwhile experience to try a Harley for a day or so :).
