Some breeds are bred to be aggressive and kill. I don't know why you can't connect the dots.

OK, cool, obviously that wasnt the cause then.
Just a lotta times you see people piss and moan about viceous dogs when they are afraid of poodles and chihauahas, and I have seen otherwise very well mannered dogs, get quite aggressive and 'stand-over-ish' when people have displayed the wrong type of body langauge around them, from merely puffing their chest out and standing tall, to the extreme of actually attacking them.
I agree, btw, some breeds are indeed bred to kill and/or fight, joining the dots is simple, big broad head, short ears, short coat and deep chest, equals 'this dog is for hunting large angry animals, he is not a pet, and will bight people, dont keep him enclosed in your houseyard, or for that matter, in a city at all.'

Sorry if I misunderstood , it just looked like a simple case of a strong dog behaving naturally and dominating it's environment by being aggressive toward someone it thought was intimidated by it and that it could 'stand over'.

PS  The Bull Terrier this thread started with should be put down, it would be dead by now if it wasnt owned by a Princess.
Bull terriers were bred to fight other dogs and should be banned IMHO, they arent even any good for hunting, they lack the  stamina required.

Having said all that however, I still reckon it is the owner, more than the dog's breed which dictates how the animal behaves.
Stupid people shouldnt be allowed to own dangerous dogs.....especially stupid people with kids.

I think a person should be directly responsible for their pet. By that I mean that if their pet attacks someone it should be treated as if the owner themself made the attack. Perhaps people would then be more careful with their dangerous pets?

They're already liable. Remember the woman out in SF that went to jail when her dog killed another woman?

That was an extreme case Toad and the woman got what? 6 years? If a vicious dog gets loose and kills someone the owner should do life.

Iron, remember that I'm an "accountability/responsibility" guy, OK?

But a drunk driver doesn't even get life if he takes out an entire family in a minivan.

Hold them accountable, to be sure..... but make it equitable. It's fine with me though if you want the Drunk Drivers to get life. Just give a little thought to the whole system though.

I get a bit angry and perhaps unreasonable when it comes to some folks disregard and disrespect for others. A driver that kills someone as a result of drunk driving should suffer a harsh fate. I really see little difference between them and those that don't control their pets.

I've known a couple of guys over the years that kept big dogs and seemed to delight in intimidating people with them. They remind me a lot of a friend I had in junior highschool. He got off on pointing a loaded gun at his friends.

As I said, it suits me. However, it's not the law of the land where you and I live and I sorta doubt it ever will be.

Holding people accountable for actions in their private life and administering equitable punishment is not one of our strong points.

And that goes for the white collar "impoverish 30,000 people and enrich myself beyond all measure" CEO's as well as drunk drivers and murderers.

I like dogs well enough.   They seem to like me.   I have no tolerance for being attacked by em tho.   I don't really care what the dogs motives are.

animal... there is no law against shooting feral cats or dogs on your property if all firearms laws are obeyed.   I work on a 500 acre area surrounded by miles of farm and ranch land.

cattle and sheep are expensive.   the "dog breeder" who lets his large dogs run wild off his 5 acre chunk of dirt is a menace.  Once dogs start killing in a "pack" they revert pretty quickly.   Cats go feral in one generation.   Sorry if this seems wrong to you but.... thats the way it is... just like that burger used to make moo noises.
