Yep. Still remember it as the most fun time in AH so far.

Those were the days my friends, we thought they'd never end.....

but they did.

and now we're sliding into a WW2OL type game.

Makes me kinda sad.

Beta flyer here, and ever since.  Not a month has gone by where I didn't have an account (main or shades) with HTC.  Played AW on GEnie and AOL, went through several WB's versions, then found my home in AH.

October 1999,  open beta 1.

Call name Swager.
Rock:  Ya see that Ensign, lighting the cigarette?
Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

Day 1 open beta. Was a knit back then because the rooks had the numbers and ruled the skies. Now I'm a rook. Ahh, the irony.

Best part of beta and early AH was that map ogre produced was a real winner and should be brought back..

bases near mt ranges that made running away futile..   you had to fight your way back to base and vice versa..

I remember first kill, think it was moss (not too shure) pulling a immelman in a furball (i was g10 )  After that i knew this sim was a winner.. (compared to wild jill and brand W)

I remember when there was real hatred of the other countries and Bish Knit rivalry was rampant..  Torque and gang in the dreaded chogs(unperked back then) vs us JG27....... luftwaffermobiles..(post beta of course)

ah the simple life back then...

dedicated pilots unlike todays suicide carrier  lancasters..

I checked score page to see if it was beta 1 tour or 2 - the pages don't seem to work. Flew as sourkrau back then. I have version 0.38 on a CD....

Started flying with Swager and Weazel - somehow they convinced me that I should learn to fly with the 190(A5?). lol - think it took a day or two to get off the runway.

Musta been beta ... nothing but a strange F-4U with CANNON and a strange Russian fighter and eventually a strange Italian fighter ... nothing to shoot at, don't think the guns even worked ....

The kill stats in expanded format worked for me for the Beta tours. Fun looking back; it was the best of times.

Thanks Toad!  Didn't realize I had 4 kills & 8 deaths in Beta Tour 1.

Ahhhh, the memories.

I loved flying against the kitchen utensil squad (or whatever their name was)

Been here on and off since Beta 1.

My strongest memory is how on that tiny little beta map, it used to be essentially a war between Bish and Rooks.  Knitland was almost completely empty; squads would sometimes go knit for a short time when they decided they wanted to take on the whole world.
