S!

About IL-2 dogfighting. It actually was pretty maneuverable below 3000m(10000ft?).Some versions had same maneuverability as 109E-4 at low alts.Source is Oleg Maddox(and IL-2 forums) making the IL-2 Sturmovik and he has access to VVS archives  IL-2 is a beast and should be treated with care. The rearward firing 12,7mm(0.50cal) was a nasty piece of equipment like the M2.Not to mention the 23mm cannons that rip ANYTHING flying apart withing fracture of seconds   And wait for the 2x37mm version!BEWARE Osties and Panzers!!

Looks highly interesting!

I personally would prefer NO externals views in the MA.

Is this something that can be turned on/off in arena settings?

I figure they were trying to make her slippery first.

In real life, you would focus your eyes past that and it wouldn't be as big of a deal.  The limitations of a flat 2D screen make it more restrictive than it would have been.

I don't care about that.  It's still just COOL.  Razorback rocks.    I can't WAIT.

Was the gunsight really offset like that?

Did they have to angle the guns in the left wing further inward to get the guns to converge?

Yes the gunsight was really offset like that.  In some planes, their was an iron ring sight on the opposite side, as a backup for the reflector gunsight.

I just realized, HTC did make an error in the details.  Here's what I mean:

I will post supporting photos as soon as I can get them scanned.  For those of you with the same books, you can see this clearly in the pictures on these pages:

Warren Bodie's P-47: From Seversky to Victory: p. 143, 263
David McLaren's Beware the Thunderbolt: p.71
Lou Drendel's P-47 Walk Around: p.71 (probably the best pic)

In FA the Il-2 ruined the game

Hmmm, for me it was Don Karnage and Rilak

The only time I have ever used external views in the game has been to snap photos of my squad members when formation flying.  Personally, I don't find them useful, but do consider the inclusion of external views in some planes to present an unfair advantage.

Getting rid of external views in all planes in the MA would be a small yet significant step in adding to the reality experience of AH.

Hmm... I like that... a lot.

But 'Atypical', surely it's 'Assymetrical'?

But I guess it being assymetrical is in fact atypical.

About the runway - stating the obvious, my guess it's some kind of new fangled two tier airfield system. Those near the front have short, dirt runways; those near the HQ have long tarmac jobs.

This adds up with the fact that 1.07 is full of modifications requested by the players, and I believe many people have requested longer runways ever since the Lanc was introduced.

Of course, roads would be excellent. But I think it unlikely.

I found it strange your pulling 3G's at 230 MPH?  Also to me the instruments don't look real.  The pointers are the type you would find on an electric type indicators not mechanical.  Also the artificial horizon looks like a standard General Aviation type indicator.  All the indicators are too clean for my taste of what they had in WWII.
