Some random idiot calls you up, says "You have 7 days" and hangs up. Completely pointless and REALLY annoying.

Nah, the psychic says I'll die in 2042 in Solar War II, when my fighter is shot up and I fly into the sun. As you can see I don't put to much faith in superstition, so I'll be around in 8 days.

Who says you are going to die? Maybe it's a contest deadline and you may have already won a check from Ed McMahon .

Hey, I heard about these calls, seems the Grim Reaper has gone digital and is now, in the interest of being a good sport, giving a people a last warning so they can have 7 last days of fun.

We will miss ya.   :D

The best decision I ever made phone-wise was to drop my landline and get a mobile.  The mobile is with me when I need it and is my only point of contact for voice calls.  Also, since it's not in a directory and probably never has been, I think I can remember one telemarketing call in three years.  And that's because I gave them my #.

same here.  When I decided to do it, I unplugged my land line phone, but kept the line live in case of an emergency.  Last week I finally cancelled the account, after having not used it for 2 years.

Plus you never have to deal with qwest again.

I still need the landline for faxing,  I'll probably switch to a digital-cable phone as soon as it's available.  I'd be willing to pay a much higher bill just to never have to deal with this crappy phone company again.

LOL, how'd you know my other reason for switching. :)

For faxing, I'd be most cell phones can do that.  Just about any T-Mobile phone can...up to 9600 baud, and the only charges for this are the airtime minutes.  You just need a data cable / software to hook up your computer to your phone.

Did the same thing, SOB.

Dropped the landline, solely cell now.

Cell is $42 per month.  Landline was $49.  Seldom used the landline...only when the Cell was acting up.  Still does from time to time, but not worthy of the costs.

Funny thing is I just received the final bill.  Some collection agency has it before me.  They call, ask when I am making the final payment.  I politely say at the end of the month.  then this guy, for no real reason, goes into abusive collection guy (this isnt a big phone bill!).  I politely tell the guy hey, I got the bill today, I told you when I'm paying it.  I'm hanging up now, Good bye.  He instantly calls back and starts with this "Yuo have to pay today or else"  "Or else what, sir? Are you threatening me?  Good bye".  He procedes to call back 7 more times, each time I simply hangup.  On #8, I ask for his supervisor.  At first I get a LOT of attitude, then I ask if he is familiar with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  I get a pause and a "yes".  From this point on, I'm called "sir" a lot.  I point out that his employee has violated section 806, Section 5 (Causing a telephone to ring or engaging any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with intent to annoy, abuse, or harass any person at the called number. ).  He promises he will check into this, apologizes and we hangup.

I then follow up and file a complaint with the state

FYI...if you need it, the info on the FDCPA is
here

You should've told him you'd pay in 7 days.
