Good lord I feel sorry for Miko's children if he has any, could you imagine being brought up by someone as cynical as him.  I wouldnt be suprised if they grew up to be a mass murderer or at the very least something along the lines of a skinhead.

Would You?

Or would you just be ashamed of them and their conditions, not look them in the eyes and hand them a Dollar?

I'm not flaming you Lepaul, but we have to do our part for them too. Welfare and charity cant help everyone especially People with mental problems, A large portion of Americas Homeless have some sort of Disability be it Physical or Mental. If you cant make your own decision's due to a mental illness, how are you going to decide you need help?
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

I'm by no means wealthy.  But I do not need the government to convince me to get a job, keep it, meet my obligations and be a productive member of society.

Poverty is a tough one to cure.  You can throw all the money you want at it, wishing for it to get better.  Its all a loss unless the one in poverty has the desire to improve their situation.

Too proud for help?  Too ashamed?  Well...with Madame Cleo off the map and clairvoyance not a reliable technology, how do you suppose we should know who needs help and when?

Perhaps my common sense is failing me...but if people do not ask for help, or take advantage of what is there, how else shall they improve their situation?

This whole thread is a great example of why this board is the poster child for failed social engineering experiments.

It looks like it has been extended to "no negativity" as well. A smiley happy board.

Nah, personal attacks are tolerated just fine; in fact they're encouraged as long as they're directed at someone whose politics aren't mainstream.

Tote the party line, folks.  We're all good Republicans and Democrats here.

Yeah, instead of developing new technologies, we should be giving all that money to invidual people who dont have money. That would be the investment of a year, i mean unemployed person will get a job the sooner, the better he earns from being unemployed!

That would benefit alcohol industry a lot and who knows what kind of technologies they would invent, non-alcohol vodka perhaps?

Or we could just leave the money in the hands of the people who earned it, and let them   decide how to spend it.

John E. Homeless

The plain and simple facts is this: Most homeless are there through choices they made or are making themselves.  You can wring your hands about the poor unfortunate homeless till the cows come home, but the majority are by choice alcoholics and drug users.  Many of the rest are mentally handicapped, and only a very small minority are homeless through no fault of their own.

The "poor unforuntate" John E. Homeless types are not the fault or the responsiblity of our soceity, and if they choose to avail themselves of the social programs available to them, they wouldn't have to be homeless.

Space exploration may or may not pay off in the long term, I don't know, but I do recognize a great achievement.

Dowding, maybe your efforts would be better spent inquiring why Britain is investing in their own attempts to land craft on Mars?

Letting this thread go was an interesting experiment.  In it are, at least, 2 different sub-discussions that have nothing to do with the topic.

But what's more interesting is, no one even sees it or makes note of it.

Why have any titles of topics?  Should just munge all the threads together.  Would make as much sense.
