As I left for the office this morning CNN was reporting it as an "emergency landing" with eight dead.

Was unclear whether it was a result of hostile fire or mechanical problems.

Out of curiousity, how would an APC have limited casualties suffered in a helicopter crash?  I give credit to the South African weapons industry, but I didn't know they could make a Buffel fly  :D

Interesting design, but unfortunately it is too ugly for Americans to be seen riding around in.

And lightly armoured, open top APCs are too easy to take out with RPGs and small arms fire.

Well thank you.  Almost three years to be exact.

If you want to drive around in a Buffel in bulit up areas or out in the countryside where there is plenty of cover and everyone and their cousin has easy access to a variety of weaponary, be my guest.

I assume that any view I have of MY PREFERENCE in terms of military equipment won't be good enough for you, so I'm not going to start a pissing match with you as to whether I am worthy enough to express an opinion on military tactics based on my "whole three years" of military experience.

Had you informed me that you are obviously a very senior current or former member of the military with decades of experience, presumably including years of combat experience fighting insurgents and MOUT, I would have never bothered contributing to this thread.

well _Schadenfreude_ at least you didnt end your post with a smiley.

I sense there are many here on this BBS that do smile when they hear such things happening to americans, and some americans smile too.  Anything to discredit that Devil Bush and his minions.
