I just got this new fighterstick and I'm really impressed with the precision of it. My old stick was past it's prime and was starting to get quite a bit of nose bounce. I don't have rudder pedals and I was wondering if it was possible to map rudder control to one of those two wheels on the bottom and right hand side of the stick. What are those two wheels for anyway?

I can see how it might be nice to have rudder pedals but why would the USB throttle be necessary? It seems like the stick has plenty of buttons as a stand alone.

Right now I'm using the AH mapping but I guess I'll try eventually to use the control manager softward.

btw - Wheels are trim controls.  Nothing to get excited about...

The CH throttle has another POV hat which many consider easier to use than the hat on the fighterstick besause of the long thumb reach on the stick.  I mapped the radio, autopilot, gear, wep, bail, view up, view down, clipboard, and damage to the throttle.  I'm considering moving the POV to the throttle and mapping a hat on the stick to view up and down so when used in conjunction with the point of view on the throttle you can get every view possible (I have it the other way around right now out of habit).   I used every button and hat on both the stick and throttle. The throttle also has a micro stick that can be used as a mouse in games that support it.  You can minimize, but not eliminate, keyboard use.

Actually you can use Control Manager to map that mini-stick to take over the DirectX mouse axes, and it will work in any game.

I've got the same stick with pedals - even though it has 16 buttons after a while 16 just isn't enough....

Still running w98se.  Thinkin of goin linux but need to do a little more research re flight controls and inputs.

If you use CH Pro throttle then, for me anyway, the 8 way hat on the throttle is the way to go.

Got carpel tunnel in right hand and the 8 way hat on the stick is just too long a reach.  My right hand starts goin numb then achs later if I use the 8 way on the stick.

CH says analog and USB will not mix but I found I can use analog stick and pedals with a USB Throttle and then map it all out in the AH mapper and they work together no problem.  But probably best if you forget using CH control manager for USB if you do this.

Analog is only good if you are NOT using XP.  CH has a work around for analog in XP but it only seems to apply to the axis and forget the buttons.

OK I hear the CH product are the best....need a lil info on which setup would be the best to use(ie which stick,pedles and throttle)and where I can get um:)

Hiya Jazbo.  

CH products are pretty upper-end, and I've never seen them in a store.  The only way to figure out what you want is to find someone who has them, or just read up online.    

Here's the basic info about product line, from their website:

I wouldn't recommend buying from their website, as you can find significantly better deals at pricewatch.com.  CH wants $150 for pedals; I got mine for $108+SH through pricewatch and OfficeDepot.com.  

If money's not an option, you can buy the whole setup at once.  If you've gotta do it piece by piece (like me), I'd recommend the Pro Pedals USB first.  You can pair them with your current joystick until you've saved up enough for the next controller, and rudder pedals make a huge difference in the immersion and ease of play.  

I'm currently debating whether the Fighterstick, combatsitck, or pro throttle will be next for me.  

You might be better off starting a whole new thread in this forum (hardware) asking about this.

The analog gear was on sale but you may not wanna go that way.  Seems analog controls and gameports are on the way out or already gone.

Thinkin i might upgrade my MB and processor in a few months but...

Hear XP gives ya a better FPS as well.

My problem is expense's.  CH ain't cheap.  There about $130 to $150 most place per unit.

And the MB I want has 6 usb ports but things change so fast may wait longer for newer stuff to come out.

Only USB device I have is the Pro Throttle, but I love that throttle!

I agree with Tarmac the pedals are sooooo much better then twisty sticks etc...

Just takes some gettin used to.  I had to work with em awhile until they are gradually becoming automatic in response, and I had to make myself stop trying to twist the stick or use the butterfly switch for rudders.  Still adjustin to em but they are so responsive!

I also have some TM Elite pedals but don't recommend them.  The springs are so strong you have to brace or tie down the unit or the whole thing moves and you get no input.

I have the whole CH USB setup, Fighterstick, Pedals, and Throttle. I had not used any flightsim gear in 7 years till I got this stuff, back then TM was king. I did some research and decided that CH was what I wanted and I am very impressed. I got mine through some online store, all three as a package deal were something like $308 with free shipping. Thats $150 savings over retail.

Once you get pedals and get used to them you will never go back. I could get by without the throttle, but not without pedals.

If you are short on USB ports, get a USB 2.0 hub for bout $20 and it will work with USB 1.1 and into the future.  I got mine at Costco and have all threee CH controls plugged into it.

It ain't the ports right now, it's the $200 or so I'm gonna need to put out for USB stuff from CH.

Limited income right now.  Either upgrade system or get flight controls :(

With newer version of AH comin out may have to go with system upgrade 1st.  Then other stuff like either XP or linux or new controls.  ETC...

AH for sure and maybe WB and IL2.  Would love info re Linux and such sims.  

MS is not my fav.

Any Recomendations?  Any FYI's?   Any what to expects? WineX? or a variation?  Best version of Linux for this?  Download locations etc.....
