Ok, can someone please answer this for me? First the back story, then the big question at the end.
I see the call on country channel, “base A xxx needs troops!!” I check the location, the nearest spawning VH, pick an M3 with troops and set on my mission. I spawn to the base, COOL, not one M3 in front of me. I start my engine; start off into first gear when I hear an engine behind me start. Another M3, that’s ok I have the lead and about a D400 head start. I make a beeline straight for the town. The other M3 is following the exact path as I am……AND HE IS SLOWLY GAINING ON ME!!!!! Right now let’s rule out the possibility of drafting another M3 to gain speed on him. It is about a 3-minute drive to the town and by the time we get there, we are neck and neck. We go into the town, release troops and he gets the capture. Now let me first clarify some things up front.
1. I am withholding the name of the other M3 driver. I 100% do not think he was cheating at all, nor do I want to “call him out” on anything. I do believe he went through the exact sequence I did (spawn, start engine, shift gears, floor it, head straight to town, drop troops)
2. I am not whining. I am truly happy that the Bishops got the capture on a hard fought fight. Of course I would have LIKED to get the capture……………..
Now my question is………WHY?
Did he have a faster computer? I have a 2.4 gig processor, half gig of ram and a ATI Radeon 9800 128 meg video card. Should be sufficient enough I would think.
Did he have a more efficient Internet connection? I have a cable modem (700 kbs,)
And does any of this matter? Obviously it does, we both had the exact same vehicle, I had a head start, and believe me I had it floored the entire way. I should have had plenty a head start to get my troops safely in the map room.
I remember a test I did on my home LAN a couple of years ago. I set up the exact same car in Midtown Madness 2 on a race across the Golden Gate Bridge. One computer was my Wife’s, your basic Internet surfing computer with an above average video card. The other computer was mine, the Gamer. In every aspect a superior computer. My theory was that they would finish the race at the same time, with my computer giving the better graphics and FPS. The faster computer won and it wasn’t even close. Both cars were registering the same MPH, but the faster computer won hands down. Is this the same in Aces High? Ever have a Spit close in on you and you can’t figure out why? I know I am comparing 2 different games and it is not fair, too many factors involved but the theory is the same.
Thanks for sticking with this long post, the final question is…………… Do a better computer and an efficient Internet connection give you an edge in Aces High? If not, what happened to my little M3 race?
Thanks in advance to the serious responses,
