Lost the edge
« on: January 19, 2004, 04:11:50 AM »
I moved to another house last month. No big deal, but I haven't been playing for weeks as a result. Last week I started playing again and boy, did I suck! Having mastered the Bf-109-G10 to a reasonable extent I started flying whatever I liked again. But even in my favourite rides (P-51B, FM-2) I was humiliated time and time again.  Shooting is still ok but my 'sixth sense' does not work anymore it seems. My feeling for a tactical situation (when to engage en when to get the heck out of here)  has detoriated. Had a few good one on one fights but in a multi bandit environment I make silly mistakes. Anyone ever noticed the same problem before, after a time from the game?

Yes. I experience this very problem after 2 days, let alone a few weeks.

But then I suck at the best of times.

Because Saw taught me everything he knows. The Bastard.

I agree with you both. Those of us for whom Aces High is just a part of life are clearly at a disadvantage to those for whom Aces High is life itself.

Judging on the number of posts and the hours on-line of some people, combined by the rabid 'passion' with which they play, discuss, defend and flame, occasional players will always be at a disadvantage. Heck, I even avoid playing most nights because I am too tired!

A few months ago I shot down a very well known AH player (I got lucky, I'm a reasonable AH-pilot but no match for the fanatical core). I checked his stats, he had over a 100 fighter kills with one (!) death. It still is beyond me how anyone can manage that with a decent K/H too. If I take a month off, only fly a P-51D and only engage when everything is in my favour, I still can only HOPE of matching a 100 to 1 K/D. How do they do it? Squad tactics? More favourable 'prime time' hours (meaning more and more inexperienced players)? Cheating? I don't understand. Point is, last night I shot him down again, he was happily vulching among a pack of countrymen and I dove in with a large height advantage. Like the first time I got him his SA seemed overloaded. But if I can shoot him down twice by surprising him, why can't others? Luck? Anybody can see that this tour my stats are very average at best...

Paaaaaleffff??! :D

Since I play this game on & off ... I regularly do s*ck, yes... however I discovered it to be a patern like this over a month:

Day 1 -> 5 : Baaaaad
Day 6 -> 8 : Doing good! It's comming back... remember to throttle back when saddoling on the prey!
Day 8 -> Day 31 : Baaad baaad Baaad... old bad habits kick in again. (this and greed is what gets me most killed)

Mystery solved.  He probably flies where the vulch is being set up, bags a bunch of kills until the town is captured, then lands.
