bad day for this bigot...
« on: January 20, 2004, 08:21:31 AM »
This is getting embarassing...  My rep is pretty much shot...mexican girlfriend..  half mexican grand daughter ... and now...  My daughter ran into the black kid that used to live down the street.  (not a kid now I guess at 23)

He was into "black culture" and of all things... mustangs.   I helped him with the car and told him to can the black crap around me.  Told him it was for losers... turns out he is a pretty bright kid... I told him as much but that he wasn't going anywhere if he stuck in the black thing.  Turns out he coud read... he seen my bookshelf (well, heap actually) and I recomended some books... tried to get as much variety as possible... kid read everything from Hemingway to Fitzgerald to WWII stuff to sci fi.   Powered through em... What do they teach kids at school anyway?

Anyhow... he moved away and now he's back and  runs into my daughter.   She calls me and tells me the kid is going to JC and working and doing well....  He told her to tell me that it was because of me and that he wants to come by for a visit.

Sometimes it's hard to be a bigot.  well... at least I'm still intolerant of cultures.

I am not intolerant of women.   I like women.   I just don't think they should vote or tell me what to do.

I like brits too... I just don't think they should vote or tell me what to do.

You mean he read both "A Farewell To Arms" and "The Great Gatsby"?

"A Farewell To Arms" is cheating!  Its about WW1!  Everyone knows that great literature has to be boring and presumptuous!  Otherwise, the English teachers won't be able to give hour-long lectures about imagery and symbolism and all that crap that ruins a perfectly good storyline!

PS: Try "All Quiet On The Western Front" and "Red Badge of Courage" and "To Hell And Back", too.  And for summertime reading, "The Old Man And The Sea".

For a person who first discovers Hemningway I'd recommend "To have and have not". Gets you intersted as a tense adventure easy-reading, and doesn't sound as "dull" for an average reader as "Islands in the Sea" or "Across the  River and into the Trees".

boroda... that's funny... To have and to have not was the first book I gave him to read..  his mom was Cuban.

Archie bunker was a pretty smart man in a lot of ways.   I agreed with a lot of the things he said.    His cure for skyjacking was a classic.   Simple and very workable

IIRC Archie always made friends with the negroes and jews and "spics" and queers in the end.  He talked a lot of ****, but actions speak louder than words.

His son-in-law was the true bigot on the show.  Always insisting on showing off minority friends in order to irritate his father-in-law.  He should have named each of his friends "token".

no, you are right, we should not vote anymore. We did vote tony blair in twice after all.

Lets line up all the politicians, don blindfolds and shoot.  Last one standing wins - nice solution instead of voting.
