Anyone out there use or have tried the nostromo n50 speedpad as a secondary controllor?

If so, what did you think and what kind of functions did you assign to it. I got one for Christmas and haven't opened it yet. Still debating keeping it.
Thanks for any info.

Yes, I have one and I use it with a MS Precision Pro 2.

Here is how I use it, going left to right, top to bottom:

Esc (Map) - Auto Speed - Secondary Guns - Flaps Up - Voice Range
Tab(Text) - Auto Level - WEP - Flaps Down - Voice Channel

The little D pad is set to Aerlion and Elevator Trim

The wheel is set to throttle.

Views, zoom, primary guns, and RPM are on the stick.  I don't use the buttons on the stick's base.

I have also used it for OFP, Freelancer, and a bunch of other games.

You should check it out.  Even if you open it you can probably return it, since it is hardware.

Thanks!
I would have never thought of setting trim to the D-pad. I'll give it a try.

It only works if you fly for Rooks in the MA.  For some reason, if you fly for any other country in the MA, it will cause your computer to lock-up, your harddrive to fail, your email address to be sent to telemarketers, your dog will die, and your house will burn down leaving you standing in the street in nothing but your underwear and a spaghetti-O's stained t-shirt.

You've been warned!  Don't let this happen to you!

It works very well as a secondary controller.  I use the wheel as a throttle. The vertical axis of the rocker switch I use as the "up/down" view modifier, and the horixontal axis is the talk switch for vox -- forward is the tunable channel, and back is range.

I assigned the buttons to WEP, flaps up/down, zoom in/out, select zoom, and the map and text buffer keys.

I don't use the shift modes in AH -- my hand blocks the view to the LED indicator.  I had several modes set up at one point so that, for example, red would contain keys useful in combat, green would be useful for cruising, and blue for takeoff/landing.  For example, only blue mode would have a button to raise/lower gear, view zoom would appear in red and green, et cetera.  This turned out to be too confusing for me, so I just picked the things that I really thought I'd need at a time I had to have both hands away from the keyboard, and quit using the shifted modes.

I do "fly" for the Rooks! Of course at my level of expertise "fly"= takeoff, find something red, engage, hear pings, observe smoke coming from engine, rapidly fall to earth in a flaming brutalized aircraft, read text buffer to see who killed me, re-up,,,ad nauseaum.

Maybe the speedpad will help ( and while I'm wishing I'll wish for a shetland pony too! ).

Sometimes I set it to 'arrow' views for looking around if I am not flying one of the trim-dependent planes like the 109G10 or P-38.

Like Runny, I don't use the shift function either since I can't really see the indicator light, but if I was interested in bombing and GVs I might be tempted to use it to have more configurations ready.
