Veterans Day

Yeah I know the bbs police can come get me but I think more read this part of bbs than the O'club.

It will be Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day. November 11th is the actual date but the U.S. is celebrating it on the 10th due to the weekend.

Try to find a VET and say thanks. Don't wait to go to a cemetery, tell a live VET you appreciate what they did.

If you have served, thank you very much. It is immaterial to me where you served, or how. I just want you to know I am glad you did and I realize my freedoms are here because of you. Thank You

Thanks Mav. I think too many Americans take what veterans have sacrificed for granted. Many see Veterans Day as just another day off from work. I'm blessed to have a family who celebrates Veterans Day with enthusiasm. My family has a history of serving in every war since the First World War, and Veterans Day has always been a holiday on par with Thanksgiving, etc in my family. It feels great to wake up and have your kids tell you "Happy Veterans Day Dad."

Even more important is to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. May they never be forgotten. Taking one day out of your life a year to pay respect is a small price for the freedom you enjoy the other 364 days of the year. <S> to all those who have served!

This really ought to be the longest thread on the BBS.

My grand-dad was an AC mechanic in france. The stories I've heard him tell (& his bunch of cronies, not only from WW2, but Korea & Vietnam & subsequent battles & those still out there somewhere too) make me not only proud of what they did, but also thankful of the USA they fought to allow us to grow up in (yeah, I know, dangling modifiers everywhere. Also thankful of the lack of syntax police). May not be perfect here in the good ole US of A, but at least we're free to squeak about it if we think it ain't

As a member of the United States Airforce, I take special notice of Veterans Day. It is important to think of all those individuals everyday in the present and in the past, living overseas and stateside that take time to defend their country.  Im not speaking of just the US alone, but any person, no matter who they are, should take the time to reflect on the people serving, or have served in the past, in their military and defending their national interests.

Plus, November 11th is St. MArtin's Day, the day when historically peasants slaughtered their pigs for the winter.
So invite some vets down for a pig roast, already!

Actually, Nov 11th is Rememberance Day - it was the official end of WW1 - and we in the UK remember the dead of all wars from WW1 to the Falklands War and the Gulf War. They died for us that we might live free, and at 11:00 on 11/11/00 I and many others will be observing 2 mins silence.

I just wanted to take a moment to tell you how much your kind post and comments mean.

As my handle will probably indicate I am an old Airborne Ranger Veteran from Vietnam. As a combat wounded vet, not a Veterans Day has passed that I'm not made aware of the fact that most people really just don't care.

Your thoughts do mean an awfull lot to us.

I wish to thank all those who have and do serve in our armed forces and guard our right to be free. Two of my most prized possessions are my grandfathers purple heart and combat infantry badge. He earned both when taking part in the normandy invasion, omaha beach. To him and all the others who have bled sweated and died for mine and our freedom we owe a debt of respect and rememberance that should never go unpaid. So to all of you who gave to allow me to live in freedom, thank you.

I must say well said all of you. Many people in my town think of me and Vet. DAy like "Oh, he's just a typical teenager, no respect to the war heros, just a day off of school" Actually, that's not true. My grandfather flew F-4U's in WWII and Korea, my other granddad was in Vietnam as well as my dad. I have tremendous respect to those that gave there lives and those that went to war so as I we could live in the freedom we do now. I salute anyone who has ever served, is serving, or had loved ones that served, and give a big thanks.

And to anyone who lost a loved one, I salute you and your loved one.
