Animal,
The RAF had the '1426 (Enemy Aircraft Circus) Flight which was formed at RAF Duxford and then moved to RAF Collyweston (now part of RAF Wittering). Their duty was to familiarise RAF pilots as to how axis aircraft looked and operated and they would go to various airfields around Britain, hence the 'circus'.
The aircraft used were:- Bf109E-3, Bf109F-4, Bf109G-2, Bf109G-6, Bf109G-14, Bf110C-5, Fw190A-4, He111H-3, Hs129B-1, Ju88A-5, Ju88A-6, Ju88R-1, Ju88S-1...
Here are a few pics of the planes at Collyweston.
Other RAF squadrons in mainland Europe would perhaps have one axis aircraft (only about 20-30 sqns). This would be used as what was called a 'hack' - recon or whatever they needed it for. These would be any axis aircraft that they could make use of, such as Ju52, Ju87, Ju88, 190, 109 etc... One Hurricane squadron used their Ju87 in the Anti-tank role and it would fly along side the other Hurricanes.
Hope this is of use...
Regards
