The AMD K6 chip is your problem...HTC does not support that chipset.

Sorry, but an intel or newer athlon is the solution.

What do you mean "HTC does not support the AMD K62" ?  I'd love to see that backed up with documentation since I didnt see that anywhere in the info when I installed Aces High many months ago.

What IS IT with people dropping in here and always blaming our system CPUs, namely the K62?  Sure, its not a Duron or Athlon by any means, but there is a lot of them around, and I can play a lot of other games just fine with it...titles such as Falcon 4.0 and others.

Looking forward to the patch already

I had an AMD system that was 500 mhz and it sucked for framerates in AH.  I found a Pentium III on Ubid.com for $800 with a cd burner DVD player and a 40 gig hard drive.  Frame rates are fine now....if only I can get back home to my system.  Damn company picks the first week of 1.05 to send me out on the road.

i guess they`re right about the K6.
AMD sucked ,now they`re good, but it wasn`t the case `till they came out with they Duron.
try to close all programs running in the background, that might help.

My system runs good except in the high traffic area where 99 PT boats and 75 A/C are all in a one square mile area!! hehe (aint it great)
The frames are good but the warpage is from star wars.
I run a amd ath 800 with 3dfx 5500 and 4xffsa and my FR is a rock steady 36 no matter what.

The K6-2 did not have a secondary cache on it.  It also had woefull floating point capabilities.  The new AMDs are much better.

Time to try to scrape together $150 to quadrouple the power of your current system.  You should be able to get a decent AMD or Intel CPU/MoBo combo for that price.  700 MHz or faster.

The K6-2 is not a good gaming processor.

I posted this elsewhere but I figured I'd post here also, since this thread has a lot about frame rates.  Hopefully HTC will find something, because it is pretty strange that people with much better systems than mine have problems far worse than I do.

====
I am going to have to check frame rates again when I get home.
When I first dl'd 1.05 and got in, there were only 8 or so of us in there. I made several passes at an enemy cv group with little frame rate loss. Same with driving a PT boat and attacking. Also some takeoffs and landings on a carrier.

It may be important to note that at this time, there was only one enemy PT boat with the group, and all the defense was otto.

Later in the evening, I manned guns on the carrier. At this time, my FR was way low, under 10 most of the time. However, it may be important to note that

a) there were many friendly planes and PT boats in icon range (probably 8-10 pt boats alone)

b) there were many enemy PT boats (again, probably 8-10) and some planes in range, trying to destroy the group

c) there was a ton of ack firing and of course, a ton of lead flying through the air.

d) enemy cv group was within visual distance (probably 10k).

e) the "visual limit" was probably being put to the test most of the time

I think all that added stress took my frame rate way down. Earlier in the day, as I said, I had no problems with FR.

Six hours does not make a trend for me, I will try again tonight and see what happens. All-in-all, I am pretty pleased so far (one lockup and one dump - not been able to recreate yet). I was scared about my computer when smoke first came out (and it still works ok for me) and I was scared about all the new goodies killing my computer (with 1.05). So far I have not seen it, execpt in extreme circumstances (fingers crossed).

I have always been running the hi-res and also the 1024x700 (or whatever it is) with 16 color.

System specs, in case it matters (no laughing allowed):

System specs:

Gateway Pentium Pro 200mhz
128 meg RAM
Creative Labs Graphics Blaster 16meg Riva TNT
Cable Modem
20gig HD
Saitek X36
Dx8.0

<No comments about my sub-standard specs. The game is still playable for me.>

I own an AMD K6-2 300, an AMD K6-III 450 and an AMD Athlon 700.

The K6s are great at productivity and 2D games like StarCraft (especially the K6-III due to its tri level cache) but the Athlon just wastes them, many times over, on 3D games.

Today you can get a Microstar motherboard with a 900mhz Athlon "Thunderbird" (the kind of Athlon with embedded L2 cache) and a cooling fan for $202.00.  (www.pricewatch.com)

This setup should be compatible with all of your existing hardware.

I only really have problems when geting anywhere near the ships. PT boats are not a problem but anything bigger is.

Just goes really slideshowwey. Which makes CV landings diffiuclt.

It looks like the K6 seems to be the common thread here.  Is it a constant slow down in frame-rate or just around the CV's when a lot of ack is coming up?  The weak link is probably in the FPU because it's getting hit hard when there's that much shooting going on.

Nah...had a P3 550MHz Intel processor and had a major slowdown near enemy carriers. Dont think its limited to AMD chips.
