A quite long time ago I read somewhere that a company of shermans used to paint red and white dragon faces on the frontal armor of their tanks to scare the hell out of the chinese (I think it was at korea, but can be during WWII, then make that japanese

).

Now I'm quite interested in the company, and the captain who commanded them but I don't remember where did I read it and can't find it anywhere using google...

so...does anyone know it?.

BTW if the exact subtype of shermans used is known, I'm also interested in it.+

Sorry, I haven't got a clue...

I always thought that the Chinese wre quite fond of dragons and a garishly painted tank would mean only one thing to the enemy an easily spotted target.

Furthermore I don't know if Shermans were still in use in the Korean war as they were not exactly the greatest tanks even in WWII. But there are enough experts on that here so we'll soon know...

thanks!...the web guided me to the battalion where this company served, and 10 minutes of google search were enough to find the answer I was looking for.

the company was C company, 89th Medium tank Battalion, called "Rice's Red Devils" after his captain, Clarence C. Rice. The tanks were M4E8s painted with tiger or dragon's mouths on the frontal armor.

Hogenbor, I believe Sherman tank enter Korean War for Army and Marines and my uncle who was S/SGT for the marines who took picture of tanks.

Shermans did fight in Korea, although IIRC they were mostly the 105mm infantry support tank, the 75/76mm Shermans being replaced by the Pershing tank.
