Joystick Setup
« on: January 25, 2004, 06:40:22 PM »
Based o the messages I've been reading, this questions is almost embarassing.  I'm a newbee and can't seem to get my controls on the old joystick setup.  I've been to the calibration screen but the controls are very jumpy and extermely touchy @ that screen.  The joystick isn't very fancy (Microsoft Precision Sidewinder).  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I'm looking forward to trying this out.

Thanks.

First off you came to the right place!

Next, until you have a stick that works well you can NOT fly well.

So no shame or embaressment needed here.  :)

Next if I can get you to email me we can probably sort this out pretty quickly.

MS sticks tend to be a little sensitive
in some cases a LOT sensitive.

Question, what operating system you useing? Is the Sidewinder a USB? Or the older gameport style?

XP does not like most older analog devices.

Basicly what we need to do is add some deadband to cut out the center slop.

Then add some damping to slow down some of that twitchy. Last step will be to lower some of the sliders to give you
a bit better control.

Give me a shout, we'll work it out.
