Do people openly cheat??
« on: November 05, 2000, 01:06:00 PM »
Hi

Just done a mission this evening and upon reaching target on autoclimb in Spit we were engaged by about 10 Rook 190s all 4k above us - our field seemed closer than their's too...  Now, surely if they saw a big band approaching target they'd be either lower or late in getting to the target?  Or is my interpretation wrong?  Something doesn't seem right at all to me and probably only the second time I've encountered anything like this in AH.

So, spies, or how do you know when to launch 10 190s to intercept mission when it had only just took off?

Everyone wants a realistic sim well this is about as close as ya can get IMHO, spies included.  All spies should be shot but ya got to catch'em first

There are squads that love to get high over a friendly field that they know the enemy is going to attack.  Sometimes predictability is mistaken for cheating.

I am in 100% agreement with AK here. I get to play maybe 4-5 times a month, so I don't have time to run a mission or get involved in a long drawn-out affair. What I do is this; I look for the field that is deepest in enemy territory, or look for the field that has red bars in the sector. I grab a fighter and climb. Voila! The fight gets delivered on a plate every time.

You might think if you see me orbiting the field I know something I shouldn't.

Could be you also interrupted someone's mission, and they went for the targets of opportunity, too.

Then of course, you might be right and someone tipped them off- but why would they grab 190's to outclimb Spits?

Kieren got a point there. Our Fw's are not a high-alt fighters.

Yet  .

Hiya's
Nexx i was'nt in the flight but i think their original target was A27 or A16

Dunno if that is flight you meant ? they diverted over from around V55 area to aid A17 out, I know they lifted off south from V55 at a field

I was one of those FW:s and we were all on Roger Wilcos so we had tactical superiority to yours. We took off and headed to v55. When we were over it we saw lots of cons IB a17. We took closer look on them and slaughtered em.. We did not have any spies and it was pure accident that you ran on us. I have video from it so if you want proof i got it.  BTW large attacks on small fields often wont lead anywhere. Your bar is so visible on dar, that there will be few osties always waiting for you. 3-4 guys is enough for small/medium field capture

That was the one Titanium, thanks for restoring my faith!  It's just seemed so incredibly suspect, but it makes total sense.

I experienced a particular cheat in the past who actually admitted to cheating so I was very wary...

Rooks, ur forgiven!

Tuomio, there were no Ostwinds there, luckily, our target was A17.  It was my first 'big' mission so that's why so many planes involved.

Yeah, I know about capturing bases with 3 or 4 people, done it enough with even less...

I was too one of those 190s...we had 8 finns online so therefore a decent number
of pilots to do a nice fighter sweep. As Tuomio said we had no idea of your presense when we took off.It was just a helluva coincidence...a nice one I might add
I have had an account only for a week now and it was my first big mission too
and it was just amazing!!! RW was awsome!!! Alltho I wasn't able to transmit...just
hearing guys giving live 6 calls and calling cons created total immersion for me.

Software problem I'm experiencing has almost totally kept me out of fighters
but last night it didn't bother me so much and I was actually able to fight some...until
I get it all solved Im afraid is all buffs, VHs and goons for me

Replicant, I don't mean to flame you or anything but I just want to point out that it
might be wise to get some evidence first before start accusing people like this...

P.S Big <S!> for Mosca who cleared my six from an obvious death. I'm sorry I couldn't co-operate too well as other half of a fighter pair...never had a wingman before

That's fine, and for those that didn't read my first post "Or is my interpretation wrong?" - that's why I asked.  As for evidence, my topic question was 'Do people openly cheat' and I've had no replies saying that people do cheat within this topic (even though I've witnessed it in the past, with evidence - the common one sharing a RW channel and supplying 'information').   So, given time you might grow suspicious at times, unless you are totally naive - reverse the situation and what would you feel?  I got my answer, and I was mistaken, but it doesn't mean it doesn't happen other times, hence the 'question' of topic.  Without anyone admitting then I won't get any evidence will I, unless I cheat?

Ask some of your Finnish comrades, I'm sure they've experienced this sort of thing, or at least felt suspicious, I have flown with 3 or 4 of them....

Hmmm...  end of topic...

Replicant,

That part of my reply you quoted I thought sometime before posting because I knew what you were going to say and I yes you only asked but to me it felt you were digging ground under our accomplishment
and now I know you weren't...I was too sensitive and I apologize for that. Other reason I posted that
part was this:

         Quote from Replicant:

              Rooks, ur forgiven!

...Shouldn't it be the other way around

Another reason why I'm VERY sensitive about cheating accusations in general
(Your post wasn't a cheating accusation as I now understang...you simply asked) is said best here:

Quote from Pyro:

We can't prevent all cheats from ever happening but likewise we can't be prevented from detecting it either.
It's a prime concern for any online game. Throwing around accusations of cheating is the online sim's equivilent
of throwing around accusations of child molesting. You don't have to be correct to attach a stigma to somebody and
make everybody else paranoid or out on a witch hunt.<END>

I know Pyro was really talking about hacking the FE but I think it's very well said on cheating accusations in general.
Again you weren't accusing....I just want to make you understand why I was a bit sensitive about it...
For me being in the same situation as you were...with my limited MA experience I prolly wouldn't even
understand to get suspcious...And I know I'm beating a dead horse..this is allready prolly ancient history for everyone...
I replied once more to make myself feel better really and clear all possible bad air hehe...

Now even I can leave this be

I hope to see you up in the big blue yonder Replicant...I bet when that happens I'll be the on the recieving end
