not sure if this is the "trick with the rivets" but I was observing the rivets on the screen to notice they are only about two pixels-one gray, one dark green.

My guess is he made a layer of rivets and put them together.

this can be very easily done-just make a few rivets them copy and paste them to make a row, until you have a complete layer.
