P51B - 363rd FS, "Berlin Express" - June 1944

We really need a new forum for skinning :D

Coming along nicely.  Just started tonight and I consider it in the pre-alpha-noob-skinner-idea stage.

Need to fix the spinner art at the top from stretching.

The only parts I would consider "finished" are the top of the wings.  Everything else needs work.

I do have a question or two though:  How does one remove the P51BART1 and P51BART2?

^ I initially filled them in (pink and all black for the alpha) but that lead to a CTD.  I need them removed as they are covering the train art (berlin express = choo-choo)

Comments?

load P51BART1_a.bmp to editor
pick color form mask (use picker) and use fill to fill all space
(in PS its edit\fill then aply fill foreground)

you should have black sheet

save this file to your skin directory
save this file as p51Bart2_bmp too

copy p51Bart1.bmp and p51Bart2.bmp to your skin directory

make sure you delete from AH2\cache\p51b1(?) all files
sometimes its can affect skin

trick is file using mask must be in skin directory same as mask must be

Yay! a 363rd FS skin, I've been lobbying for one of these since my first day in AH.   Now we just need the Old Crow. :)

The fuselage has been reverted to original form for the time being.  It looked like crap and will be redone tomorrow.  The bottom half will be the same silver/grey color as the underside of the wings.

How can I avoid this "mirror" effect? :(

Ouch.

I'm afraid there's no way around that, Oct.

 You could try either:

1) sadly, remove the text and replace it with symbols or a banner-like picture to just represent what was there in real life..

or

2) moving the text into the part of the plane, where it doesn't mirror at all.

When decided to skin the 8//JG52(did u receive it btw?), there were some Bf109G-10s with texts written on it  but I had to give up on all of them and choose a 109 that had no trouble using a mirrored fuselage to skin.

Damn :(

What I don't understand is the fact that the right side of the P51B is just above the left side in P51BSID.bmp.  Why doesn't AH utilize both sides?

(Yes I did recieve your 109, thanks!)

Because there are LOTS of bugs in the mapping of textures on the 3D models in there ;)

And remember, it is still just a beta... Maybe some of them will get repaired before the final...

It's not finished, but feel free to download it and check it out.  I removed the decals (the train and the "Berlin Express" which mirrored to the other side).  In the zip I have included a Light version and a Dark version.  The light is the original (what you see in the pics) and the dark version is, well a slightly darkened version of the olive drab.

Again, this is not the finished product :)

Here's the link.  http://www.onpoi.net/ah/pics/users/ah_52_1075657279.zip
