Enough of those cards already!
« on: May 05, 2000, 12:54:00 PM »
What's up with those cards and fancy logos, and half-screen signatures?

It started with tastefull 32x32 or 64x64 squad logos once, but now it has gotten out of hand.

The graphics are usually crappy, take ages to load, require lots of scrolling and attract attention of everyone in my office.
Even if they were good graphics, I do not care to see them after every one-line post.

I would gladly a sample of each in a "cool cards and logo's" thread, but in every message - that is getting old.

This is a place for a serious (or not so serious) discussion, which means words for most people. You do not walk around with those cards and ugly pictures taped to your forehead in RL where the bandwidth is unlimited because most people would think you an idiot.
And do not suggest turning off all the graphics in my browser. There are lots of great puctures, screenshots and and charts posted here that contain valuable information.

Please be considerate to other people with slow web access or suspicious bosses or maybe some artistic taste and stop posting the logo's.

Hi if you are having load problems from large   pictures in public forums before you browse you can   fine tune your browser to only show text
 in IE :Tools/Internet options/ Advanced/Multimedia /
Uncheck  show pictures

I hope this helps your load times /or helps you keep your boss off your back

 Thanks, baddawg.
But as I stated in my post, I do want to see graphics in my browser (I use Netscape, BTW) - on other sites and on this board, just not the same meaningless logo's.

Well, I must agree to some extent. I have a 1Mbit cable (and it is 1 Mbit, not divided between umpteen users, doesn't work that way with my ISP).

Even so, some threads can take long to load. I assume that the graphics come from other sites (seen them load in the status bar in Nutscrape).

Even so, when people use overloaded sites/slow ones, my connection occasionally grind to a halt.

Small pics are good, I think as they add to the experience. Larger ones could be posted as hyperlinks instead. At least if they're hosted on slow sites, which basically means most "free" ones, such as Geosuckies.

150-180ms pings to a US server ain't bad. Don't know how HTC have done their routing, but it seems they're pretty damned good at that and writing network code.

I agree with miko2d on the size,
looks like everyone trying to beat others in size,
soon we will have fullscreen Cards

I think 64x64 are more then enough for signatures.
I'm on a fast connect, so no dl problem for me, but
Some people post 3 words, and have a Big Poster signature,
this take alot scrolling, and is anoying(sp?)

Hey, I can literally scale up my logo to full screen and it takes less bytes than those playing cards

I don't mind them, I quite like them on occasion, but I wish they'd make a thumbnail version about half the size if they want to post them every time.

1776, use the modem as a dial up server for your computer.  Then you can act as your own ISP when on the road
