« on: November 06, 2000, 01:59:00 PM »

F4F Wildcat..
Betty Bomber (cant remember the official name..)
Douglas Dauntless..
Ju-87 Stuka..
P-40..RAF markings or the classic flying tigers scheme
P-39..
Hawker Hurricane..

different types of bombs...there is different wieghts but how bout different types

HE (High Exlposive)
Incendary
Armor Piercing

and some type of skin editor...where it would allow you to display your own skin and it would be viewable to other players...

i know thats a bit much...but it would be deffinatley worth it..

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Skin editor? That would be a mistake. Armor piercing bombs might be nice for the naval vessels. But please, no skin editor.

You made a major error in your post!  You asked for a p39 rather than a p63.

yes why no skin editor
this is near #1 on my wish list
HTC lkatest planes (lancaster, ju-88) look great. But the early ones (p51)suck bad. Us users could make better ones i bet (not me, i suck,  but look at some other sims, theres talented artists out there)

Ever seen a cow-print Mustang flying around? Or a psychadelic Spitfire? Give people a skin editor, and you'd see all kinds of crazy stuff flying around. Maybe allow certain markings to be edited, like squadron markings etc, but the entire skin would be a bad thing.

Simple answer.

Do you want to download every new skin that is being used every time you log in?

I sure don't.

Nevermind that the only way we have to tell variants apart is their paint schemes.  Is that pink spit a V or a IX?

I don't think it's practical.

Beyond what Lephturn posted, some people will give things like M3's, PT boats, C47's, tanks, etc... hot pink color schemes to make them easy to see if it is possible for them to do so.

Don't make people download other people's skins unless they want to, and come up with a way that keeps people from abusing them in the manner above and I don't think you will see people opposed to it.

Lephturn:

does it really matter what plane it is, our you going to turn away from certain planes.
you see a enemy plane, you attack. who cares if it is painted like a zebra or a purtty pink, or wild bright orange. you see the red type above itm, you know it is enemy plane, you attack and kill it or be killed.

what I would like to see changed is,

(1) get rid  of the country markings,
such as the RAF markings, the USAF markings, the LW markings, and so on.

(2) replace them with the game markings,
such as Knihjts, Rooks, and Bishops. you know, chess peices. that would be way cooler.

and I think all planes and ground units should have a cup holder and an ashtray.
oh, and a cigarette lighter so we can plug our cell phones in and not run down the battery. and maybe some of those air fresheners and the head bobbing dogs in the window as well.

well that should be enough for now, I'll let you know if I think of any thing else.

Yeah we don't want people totally screwing with the base skins.

Although I would like the ability to tweak my plane just enough to make it stand out. Maybe HTC could give us mapable tail sections?

Then people would know that tiffie with the hairy-ass is me :-)

Why would I want to spend my time downloading megabytes of your and other people skins? Even if I knew I would meet you online close enough to discern it, I do not care about your artistic ability, only your flying skills.

Perhaps a limited palette for painting skins,,

OR,

just make the markings ( ie, numbers/id markings)

Each time a new plane with new art comes into view within 200-300yds the art is loaded from the hard drive to RAM to video memory giving you a slight screen freeze. You dive into a furball of 40+ planes.. your machine will simply lock up when it tries to load all them "perty" paint schemes that you will never see because you will too busy dancing across the sky to avoid getting shot down.

Then again what do I know...

Just make it an option, to use the custom skins (and download them) or use the default skins.
Most of your quake games offer this option.
Or, something similar to redbaron3d, if you want the skins you download them separate from the game with some form of config file.
