Mmmm... homebrew.

(OT: Hey Gunnss... at last year's Con you talked with me about a terrain you'd like to see... P-47s and mountains. If you have a few minutes, could you e-mail me just a very brief outline so I can look into it? Thanks.)

Thanks for the interest, I've been beating my head on the project.  Basically it is a Med project, suitable for a scenario, based on the 1943 film Thunderbolt! that was filmed by Republic Studios under combat conditions in Corsica during 1943.  The film detailed operation "Strangle" a P47 based campaign designed to cut the German Army off from supplies while they were defending Italy.  The best thing would be to view the film,

Basically My conception of the scenario would be a train and bridge hunt.  with a map of Italy and its close islands as the arena.  Central Italy is very mountainous and has many rivers cutting to the sea.  This caused the construction of bridges for rail and road traffic.

By setting up a series of "Linked" road/convoy,  RR/train, objects you can control the speed of the trucks trains by varying the length of the segment of road/track <10 miles seems to give an appropriate speed>. bridges need to be destroyable objects defended by AAA and ma-by an object like a barrage balloon .  Also a ground element advancing up the peninsula with German resupply controlled by the number of Object destroyed messages gained by the Allies.  Also of note were the ridge top towns along the roads that provided cover for the entrenched defenders.

With the new Skinning conventions allowing multiple skins per Aircraft each Squadron on a side could have the historical paint job for the time.  Also the force mix should be primarily P47s with a few p51Bs for air cover Medium Bombers should be set up in 4 person squads <12 AC> with all attack/fighter squads set up in 12 <3 elements of 4>

Axis forces should be time appropriate 109s and 190s with Mc205s and 202s.  Axis bases would be in port towns and large city's where bases were historical located.  Of note is the possibility of having a 3 sided war with the Italian "Co-Belligerent" forces swapping back and forth between Axis and Allies as their moral changes.

Scoring would be based around the total number of objects destroyed and territory captured/held.

and the map should be drawn in a "compressed" format to allow numerous missions in a frame.  All in all it would be a different type of scenario and a change of pace.

Last notes; Cruiser forces, shelling the coast, PT vs E and Schnell Boots on the coast line attacking barge trains, shore battery type Artillery positions guarding important roads inland, and Earls P47 as one of the skins......
