My Cougar a $300 paper weight
« on: January 30, 2004, 06:01:16 AM »
I just got my Cougar.  Unfortunatly its a 20lbs paper weight.  I'm tryin to get the new update and I have done what Frugal website said about the INF files. Well I don't even have a folder in Windows that says INF. If anyone has the files or can help me I would appreciate it. I do have my Cougar running on 1.07 firmware and it seems to be functioning properly. Now my next problem, I made sure my throttle was un pluged, I upload a profile from Frugals for AH and loaded it up to the Cougar. Everything works except the plane never gets power when I push the throttle forward, all the bottons work on the throttle.  I used Foxy's Cougar analyser and the computer shows the movement of the throttle, also one other thing the WEP is set up so that when you go all the way forward with the throttle it will kick on that seems to work. Is it the profile or do U think I need to send my flight stick back??? If someone has a good profile for the Cougar that the throttle does work please send it to me so I can see if I broke it already.  Thank You

If the throttle is working in the analyzer, then it's probably not the stick.  If the file is telling the throttle to send out keystrokes instead of acting like an axis input in windows, that would cause a problem.  If it is acting as an axis input, then it probably just needs to be set up in AH under the joystick setup.

Check out Cougar World's joystick- & macrofiles section;
my own files (tested by Zeb and Flossy ;) ) can be found there, too
(note that they requires an installed HOTAS-update 2.x, though).

WOW!

that's 22 X45 HOTAS's through CompUSA using the $10 - 12 month replacement policy given the first one cost a total of $90, initial serive plan included ... 22 X45's would keep you in new joysticks for the next 12 years easy, that Cougar going to be new in 12 years?

I was one of the folks that lost my Throttle on the firmware update (the range was from about 25-50% over a couple of minutes) E-mailed TM and they had me a new pot in 10 days from reciept of my first note.  You might want to drop them a line.

Did you ensure that in AH under the joystick setup that you have selected the Cougar to act as the throttle?

Another reason to like Saitek, SOB doesn't :)

I get a new x45 about every 10-11 months. For $10, not a bad deal.
