Dinger - interesting story. Must have been the "wrong kind of snow", an expression that entered British train management folklore when our trains were unable to cope with the weather conditions one year.

There are two types of train passing through the tunnel. Eurostar is an electrically powered passenger train which operates from Waterloo and goes to Paris or Brussels. The other type of train is the shuttle. This is what we were using. You drive to Folkestone, and drive your car onto the train, which is like a long corridor as the cars are loading on. When all cars are in position, doors swing across to form compartments in which there are two cars only. Those doors have roller shutters. They also have doors which people can pass through to get to the next compartment. I usually just sit in the car. The journey to Calais is only 35 minutes.

French bands - Air in particular.

French people - have always been friendly when I've been there. Apart from ski lift attendants for some reason.
