Laz, Killnu you guys got a film or two I could have on the 38? I've been flying it 85% of the time over the last couple of months, and tho I'm getting better... I think  :)  I can still use all the help I can get !

Mostly I'm looking for merge angles you guys use to get on high guys. While I can avoid hits, I think it takes me too long to equallize the "E" state, and in the MA that means I get jumped to often by his friends  :)

Here, you are talking of out turning Yaks, and that would be a nice film to see too. I may be getting too slow to make the tight turns I need to win knife fights.

I guess ANY films ya might want to post some place would be great :)

Sure, I have to whip up a few films in h2h throughout the next few days, should have some nice ones for you by the end of the week.

Biggest thing to remember when turning the 38 is use flaps, and stall fight.  I was accused of being a dweeb by a guy in h2h though, because I used my flaps to outturn his spit5.  So be careful who you use those flaps around. ;)

Thanks Laz, I'll be looking forward to the films. I do use the flaps, love going up in a rope and just drop them things down one at a time till its time to roll over and fire those cannons thru that "roped dope"  :)

Thru all the reading I've done on the boards on the 38, one of the things a few complain about is the auto-retracting flaps. I don't think mine have ever retracted, so either I'm pulling them back up too fast/soon, or I'm just too slow.... another thing I'd like to check out on a film.... your flap usage.

I guess the more I think about it the longer the list will get :D

I fly the F6f alot, one thing I noticed that many do not realise is its E retention and acceleration. Ironically, I first realised how well it retained its E while trying to land it for the first time. I approached the field as I always do, threw some opposite rudder, dropped a notch of flaps and waited....and waited......and waited. The F6 just held on to it's E. This prompted me to do some more in-flight testing. Simply put, the F6f holds E like it stole it. It reminded me alot of the AW Spitfire. It may not have great long-term speed, but it accelerates very well, due to it's large mass and holds E like you wouldn't believe. SO, in a sprint the F6f can often outrun much faster planes long enough for them to lose interest.

The yak9T, it's super sweet to see that monster shot connect. :D

also might want to blow the mgs out shortly after take off and turn off tracers just to get the feel of it.

As Ghosth will confirm, it's a mistake for a Yak driver to get into a low-speed fight with a well managed P-38. On the other hand, if the 9U driver stays fast and avoids getting sucked into a stall fight and waits for the P-38 to burn off his WEP, the 9U has a noticable edge. Yaks have very poor low-speed handling, whereas the P-38 is rock solid. I haven't tangled with the 9T in a P-38, but its lack of speed and power reserve leads me to believe it will not fare well against the Lightning given equal E at the outset. Your results may vary.
