Hello all
A friend of mine is testing out a very big printer and has asked me to provide a nice, big image of a Spitfire. I think he wants to put it out to like 1.5 sq. meters or so. So, I was wondering if any of you all dweebs either has or could provide a link to a high quality image.
I have quite a bit of ww2 airplane images, as well as my own photos, and I will also gladly mail to you some of my stuff.
BTW, we would gladly try out other planes as well, such as the 109, P51, B17, etc, etc.

I've got a fairly large collection of Spit XII stuff since that particular version has been my passion since 1980.

Stuff like this one work?

If so, what kind of resolution you want? think the scanner goes at least 1200.

One from Rolls Royce of their late/lamented Spitfire XIV RM689 that was destroyed in an airshow a while ago

Guys, there is alot of people interested in Spitfires or WWII aviation. Slack/+Tiff/Guppy is a Spitfire afficionado beyond any that I have seen. Ask him about SpitXIIs, he can probably tell you how many rivets they had in each wing.

What we need to do now is to get him back to work on a book.

I have a couple pictures (most notably a pic with Slack and his Spit buddies) but this one brings back the most memories.

I'd used this one first showing the 90 gallon drop tank on the 91 Squadron Spit IX

Del/+Dizy flew my wing in the AW Longbow Scenario where we had the 602 Squadron Spit IXs. I got a bit bent out of shape when they wouldn't allow us any range aka drop tanks, which effectively neutered the Spits.

Bottom image shows 602 Spit LFXVIes racing down the Wilhemstrasse after skip bombing a V2 research lab in Holland.

Couple more Spit XIIs since I was given the opening

DP845 the prototype XII in October 43 with F/L Clive Gosling at the controls in the top photo.

Bottom photo is a fairly well known shot of a pair of 41 Squadron Spit XIIs in April 1944. F/L Don Smith RAAF is flying MB882 EB-B the last Spit XII built.

that spit just looks so right. What i wouldnt give for one of those in AH. What was its performance like?

Imagine the screaming from the mob if you brought this 4 cannon Spit to AH.

Spitfire 21 LA220 DL-G, 91 Squadron, Spring of 45. Yes they did see combat with 91 Squadron, so they aren't a 'what if" contestant.

Got this image from the pilot, who'd been with 91 off and on since 1941, having flown in combat, Spit Vb, Spit XII, Spit XIV, Spit IX and Spit 21s. (In that order with 91)

That particular Spit as Supermarine Test Pilot Jeffrey Quill's favorite.

400 mph down low. As the fight had moved to the medium to low alt range it did well. The clipped wing and pointed tail became standard on the LFIX and the LFXVI later in the war when they were operating mainly at low levels. The clipped wing increased the roll rate against the 190.

The XII with the single stage Griffon III & IV operated best at medium to low alts. It was used to effectively end the FW190 "tip & run" raids on the south coast of England in early 43 as all of a sudden the 190s couldn't run away on the deck.

There were only two Squadrons of XIIs, 41 & 91 but they were effective with 91 Squadron being the highest scoring Spit squadron in the Fall of 43.

Tactics were to fly below the German fighters and try and suck them down. Best day being October 20, 1943 when the Tangmere Wing of 41 & 91 claimed 9 109s and 190s for no loss.

They were used a lot to escort the B26s and Mossies on medium alt raids to France.

It's a beaut, but as much as I'd LOVE to someday fly an XII in a flight sim, we'd be better off with an LFIXe or LFXVIe in AH.

And I always thought those darn spits couldn't reach the mainland...must be cause those dt's....Were they ever able to reach it back to the UK when they dropped their tanks over the mainland?

Hehe, if we would get those to AH, they'd have to be perked. The Spits are just too good.
The Spits reached the mainland allright, but Germany was out of the question more or less until the RAF had established bases in France, and also until the Mk 21 or other specialized type. I have read somewhere that the MK 21 could go London-Berlin with return. Take that with Spitfire nimbleness and speed in the neighbourhood of 450 mph, and 20K in less than 5 mins, holy cow.
