Not at all. Like I said, I don't believe their can be such a thing as "stealing a kill", outside of the examples given where an AC is obviously dead. I just wanted to get a feel for what other AH pilots think on the subject. I would not consider myself a kill stealer and neither would I call anyone that finished off a bandit I was working on a kill stealer. A kill for our side is a kill for our side. If someone gets the bad guy before me, he probably saved me from embarrassing myself by making a mistake and getting shotdown.
I thought about this some, and got an idea. I doubt it would be terribly hard to program as damage to specific plane parts is already tracked.
How about the person who critically damages a plane, by that I mean renders it non-viable (ie: shoots off an entire wing or tail section, or gets it flaming, not just smoking fuel or oil, flaming planes explode after X seconds), gets the kill regardless of raw damage done. This would prevent the most offensive form of kill stealing, the flaming wreck shooters.
Imagine if in real life a person shot the tail or wing off an enemy plane only to have one of his squadmates chase it as it fluttered down to deck then claimed the kill during mission de-briefing. There'd be some serious problems
