anyone know how to make videos from Aces High and other computer sims/games?

I read one post in our forum here about outputing from video out to a VCR, then re-import via a video capture card from the VCR play source. (couldn't find it though).

For those of you in the field (video, etc)..What about having a video out cable going from your vid card into your vid capture card (in the same computer)?? then just recording as you fly? Would this work? What about having 2 machines, one flying and providing the video out source, a second machine capturing the video source from the first machine.??

Would REALLY like to be able to get some smooth videos made...

pls help! thanks!

I have a p2-450 with a VooDoo3 with video out.  I bough a video capture device for my p3-600 called the Dazzle Video Creator. Its USB and captures video quite well.

I'm still working on ways to get the size of the films down without sacrificing on the image quality.  Its harder than I thought it would be.

AKDejaVu,

would you mind letting me know the specifics of how you go about capturing the video? what steps you do, etc etc.

Also, how much was the capture card? and feedback as far as what kind to get?

Thanks for the link. I tried the quicktime and MS media links first but even though my Netscape has those plug-ins it still failed to activate.
So I tried the Real Audio version and...blech! I felt like I was watching through a haze of vaseline.       It was a Spit anyway.

You've got several options for doing this. If you don't want to bother with "TV" out on your video card (and frankly most of them are not great), the gadget you are looking for is called a scan converter. They run from a few hundred US dollars to well over $10K for commercial quality ones.

We ( http://www.farhorizonstudio.com ) do a number of computer educational videos and use a mid-grade commercial scan converter to DV tape and then a Firewire link to a digital edit suite. Let me warn you, however, that you won't be very impressed with the results. That "haze of vaseline" look is pretty common. The problem is a simple one of available resolution. By the time you get down to a VHS quality image (and most streaming web distributed things aren't any better), you're down to such a poor resolution that things like text are essentially unreadable. We have to use a zoom feature of the scan converter to be able to read the text on buttons and the like.

Having spread all this gloom, however, there's been some interesting stuff done. My favorite is probably Brendo's Movie Page. His source material comes from Warbirds, but the principles are the same. His site is downloadable QuickTime files, and some of them are really big.

Hope this helps

I have been playing with them; using the video out is what makes them blurry.  I have better results videoing right off of the monitor.  The results are not vaselined, but you still can't read the text.  Size is always the problem.

If you have cable, here is one I did, it is in black and white to give it atmosphere, but the color ones come out just as sharp, if not sharper, with no increase in file size.

The footage was shot in the last frame of the WB Battle of Britain Scenario, and shows us bombing the port, then flipping and hitting it again.  On egress, several Spits attack us, but they didn't get too close.

30 Megs, so don't bother if you are on a dialup.

The setup I use(not shown is the video splitter for the two monitors):
