Time for me to go...
« on: February 07, 2004, 10:50:31 PM »
Just wanted to drop a note out here to say thanks and to those I've flown with in AH, notably 9 GIAP, JG301 and, of course, my own unit, Kampfgeschwader 2 "Holzhammer", plus numerous individuals,

I am not going to go into great detail about why, but I will shortly be taking a break from online WW2 flight sims for an indefinite period.  I've had heaps of stress offline, and online here, whilst there's been snippets of fun here and there, it has also stressed me  more than is worth it.  And it has caused me to lose my temper on more than one occasion, and that's never good.  Other than occasional H2Hs for squad meets, I wont be flying online.

I was going to fly the Ruhr game then cancel my account, but after today, I'm not sure flying online any further  is sensible.  I'm just too ill to cope with further stress, even such as one gets from a game.

Thanks to those who've been good game chums - have fun and take care!

It sounds like you're doing the right thing, Esme.   Take care of yourself; you're a good egg!

Best wishes always.

Esme, FWIW, I think you are doing the right thing in taking a break.  When a game gets you so stressed out, it means you are taking it all too seriously and I think it will help you feel much better.  Best of luck with your RL issues and I hope someday you will return and enjoy this game for what it is - a game.  :)

Cya Esme was fun flying with you on those couple of Ju-88 missions, or escorting your buff. I know about the stress as well, coming back here soon though, hope to fly with you again in the future

Misunderstanding there, Flossy - I have never lost sight of it being a game. I was already stressed out by "real life" issues, and was hoping the game would be a nice de-stresser, but was unlucky enough to have thing turn out otherwise.  Sheer bad luck, nothing more, but there y'go.  Kaka happens, sometimes.

I do not understand why anyone would think that I might have lost sight of AH being a game, the purpose of which is to have fun. If it were anyone else, Flossy, I might well have taken exception to that remark. Neither do I understand why there is often so much resistance in AH to trying other ways of having fun IF those ways tend towards the excercising of classic bomber skills in ops other than the types run by the 8th Air Force.  Those ways can be fun, too.  All I and some others want is a chance now and then to have THAT  kind of fun.  AH is perfectly capable of it.  (Well.. the software could use a couple of tweaks to help it a bit, but HTC knows about that, and for all I know may have it on the to do list.  But thats another matter)

Sadly, even trying to discuss the matter has too often ended up in excessively heated argument or even in being flamed, rather than sensible discussion. Too many closed minds, too willing to take umbrage at anything they see as not praising what THEY like or understand to high heaven, and I'm too worn out to fight 'em any more.  I've never had a problem with how others want to use AH in order to get what they want from it,  I fail to see why I should take so much flak for simply trying to express what I'd like from it, and if possible gently nudge things towards making that happen now and then.

It is, after all a game, and this girl just wants to have fun, not arguments.

But anyway, lack of that kind of fun after all this time is why I decided I'd close my account after Ruhr anyway.  "Real life" (TM) stress problems merely brought that forward, in combination with sheer bad luck in frame 1, that's all.

I will not be engaging in any further comment in these forums for the forseeable future.

Goodbye all, have fun, and if it isnt fun, bail out instead of being a dafty like me and hanging on too long to find your parachute is smouldering! :-}

It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)
