OK first answer - you can get the scenery at http://www.megascenery.com  Second question, I always delete the ONLY file in the autogen directory - it seems to muck things up and higher FPS result by ditching it. Third - the scenery is easier on yr system then the default scenery - why I have no idea - but I have mesh set to 20 and a bunch of other junk, and i'm pushing 40-50 FPS on the aforementioned system. As for the field - after going over that website - i'm convinced its Mitchel Field.

There is no doubt in my mind what so ever...

That's the remains of Mitchel Field.

Check out the links.

I'm 100% certain.

well, you've got someone who works in an aviation museum on old Mitchel field, who claims that's what it is, that Roosevelt Field was 1 mile to the N, and posts a link to a site that gives images, charts, Lat/Long and assorted notes for both airfields from their inception to the present day, and from those, it's clear that we're looking at Mitchel field.
You can't get much more detailed than that.

For the FPS buff's i'll put my settings in - most of these are suggested during the scenery setup and applies to while you are flying in the NY area ONLY. If you continue outside you might want to jack them back up. Here goes...

In Display:

Terrain Mesh - 20
Terrain Tex - High
Detail - Land only
No Dawn texture
No extended textures
Scenery Complexity - Extreme
Autogen - set to sparse (No need for buildings to muck up the works
Dynamic - none
No ground shadows - could change

Weather

Sight distance - 60
Cloud draw - 30
3D cloud - 100
Detailed - Max

Hardware

Transform and lighting - on
Rest is off - no extended or AA
Mip Map quality - 7
Hardware lights 6
Global tex size 6
Target frame rate - 87

Additional stuff - delete the autogen file in the autogen directory.
Replacement textures: resautog.zip, ffpv2.zip

All replacement textures are 50 % smaller and it makes a SIGNIFICANT speed difference if you are outside of the NY area. Inside it only helps as they are for clouds, etc - you can get these as http://www.flightsim.com or I can email them to you.

Example of frame rates:

East Long Island by East Hampton and Montauk, Gardners Island, 80 FPS +
Flushing Queens: 60 FPS +
Newark Liberity sector: 40-50 FPS +
Bridgeport N90 sector: 60 FPS +
Manhatten and the Bronx: 40-50 FPS +

System specs: AMD XP 2400, 1 GIG, RADEON 9600

Doesn't having mipmap at 7 make your screen shimmy...  I've found cranking it up, makes everything look like crap...

Wolf or anyone...

I got my Mega Scenery today and I'm going nuts. I can't find the airfield, and I'm looking right where it should be.

Could you take a screenie of your map when you took this shot so I can compare longitude and lattitude.

Any other tips would be appreciated!!

Thanks!

Muck, if you track the Kennedy 075 radial at 10 miles - that will put you just south of the field by 2 or 3 miles. Look off yr left wing.

wow nice graphics. I tried the MegaScenery demo for LA and it didn't work too well with autogen, i.e. trees would appear where house should be. anybody has similar problems?
I see wolfala has disabled autogen.

Couple things - turn Anti aliasing off within the game - follow its recommendation and set it to 4x within the card itself by using custom settings, etc. 2nd - keep yr speed below 160 if you are sightseeing - it takes a lot fo time to parse up everything. 3rd - DO NOT USE TIME ACCELLERATION - you will just screw yrself and nothing will parse up. If you need me to tweak yr system, drop me a line on AIM: wolfala MSN: wolfala@aol.com or ICQ 1065773 and I will work with you.
